New to TVR Buying TUSCAN - Some advice?

Hi guys,

I previously posted somewhere else but they suggested here. I am new to TVR's and have always wanted one - and now is the time. I have £16k and want a tuscan.

I am looking at this one

I am looking for hints and things to look for - or ideally someone in or near Manchester who would come and check it over with me (for beer tokens or equiv).

Looks nice and tidy. Find out when the rebuild was done. Pre 2005 and it will probably have the same poor quality followers and will likely need another rebuild at some point. Post 2005 and it will have better quality followers. If later than that the rebuild may still be under warranty which would be very handy.

Perhaps contact Dom at TVR Power to ask him if he knows the car and what he thinks of it. Bear in mind he's pretty busy though

Personally I'd like to have the original cats in case you're struggling to get it through the MOT so it's worth asking the owner if he still has them and if he has the standard end cans in case you decide to put it back to standard

AS you probably have read many threads here about searching for the new Tuscan, just make sure you have some money for any unfortunately eventuality. The car looks good, and I agree with whytwo's comments.

I definitely recommend to get an specialist to look at the car if you don't know what you are looking for. I have used Rob Ingleby to search my Tuscan. He will also do inspection too.

Looks good to be honest. The fact he's put aftermarket cans on probably signifies that he took pride in the car and having a rebuild at Power supports this. Ask around on these forums as someone will probably know the car.

Thanks guys for your support! The engine was rebuilt in 2005 - he is going to fax me all the documentation so I can go through it before I drive 200 miles...

I have asked Rob Ingleby to come with me, he seemed to know what he was talking about - has anyone else on here used him?

Both cars look good although the one with the rebuild would probably just edge it. I also like the interior of the first one better.

When I got my Tuscan I new very little about cars period, but I got lucky and never had any issues with mine while in my ownership. I have to say they are fantastic cars sound,performance and appearance are stunning. But they can be eratic, you can reduce the chances of unexpected costs if you treat it well, check oil and water regularly ,get it serviced when it's due and stick to the warm up precidure religiously!! probably the most important thing.

alex,goodluck with whatever you buy. its a good idea to join the tvr club,you'll meet people from your area who can help with advice and theres a monthly run to go on.

I would like to advise, but I cant. It depends on how your car might have been treated by the previous owners. Its a real question of whether the engine has been gunned which all owners will deny. Rebuilds et al are costly, but not always mandatory. Having said that, my car is on its 3rd engine, (not by me) one at 12000, one at 35000. Its now done 53000 and is sweet, but thats not to say that when i want it to do its stuff i hold back.

There is no guaranteed reliability, whether you but TVR or any other car. I will say that if you buy TVR you will never regret it, and the admiration/jelousy/envy/respect/suprise factor that you will get will make up for any minor problem that you may experience.

Buy with your heart, but use your head.

Here is one that is only 33 miles from you. It had a rebuild in 2008 and the engine is still under warranty. As mentioned earlier in this thread, the rebuild should idealy be later since early rebuilds can have issues.

Topas colour looks almost silver on a cloudy day, then its sunny bright blue with a hint of green.

2000 4l with full engine rebuild 350 miles ago by tvr power.
30,000 miles on clock with full everything.

Hi no i didnt, but it did seems like there was excuses for not being able to test drive when i wanted. does look nice though!
