A mate of mine has found some very old bottles of beer in his parents house. He reckons they might be from the fifties or sixties.

I assume they won't be drinkable but are they likely to be worth anything? Is there a market for collecting old bottles of beer?

I had a bottle of 1999 Thomas Hardy's ale the other night. It was delicious.

Then again, TH is one of a very small group of beers that improve with age...

I've got 2 bottles of 'royal Wedding' beer and one from Charles's investiture, (40 years) all unopened, and they are worthless.

I've got some Chimay Blue from 2005 in my wine fridge which I will drink one day, as an experiment. It's looking very yeasty at the moment. I've heard it does age quite well, but not for much longer than 5-10 years.

I suspect the beer from teh 50s, kept in the garage will be pretty much undrinkable. But maybe worth something to collectors.

Chimay Blue can (apparently) last for 20 years. I have bottles from 2002, 03 and 04 waiting to be drunk at an opportune time drink
