HSV & Monaro Forum. Drag Day & Eliminator 4th July 2009 - ITINERARY

G’day everyone, and I really hope it’s a good one for all of you! At registration you will receive a voting form for Best Presented car, which will receive a Trophy. Please complete it as soon as you are able and hand it to Gareth. (I’m not entering that one!)

This day is about enjoying our cars, and finding out what man & machine are capable of on a two lane blacktop, without the twisty bits. Some say it’s easy? You will find out how.

The idea is to use the track time during the day to develop and improve your track craft, and post your best times of the day. This time will place you in a 32 car “Shootout” towards the end of the afternoon the time is weather dependent. The Eliminator or “shootout” is not based on time but first over the line. If you red light at the start you are out.

How it works:

The winner of each race will proceed back to the staging lanes to line up for the next round and so on until we are down to the last two. Runner up return to pits. We may run an extra eliminator for the slowest cars to qualify for the main event. This will be in the event of more than 32 cars attending. We will keep you informed. The winner will receive the HSV & Monaro Forum Eliminator Cup.

We know that there are some lightweight specials coming, so there are other categories that we hope will give everyone else a chance to compete:

Including, Best presented car, Fastest ET (Elapsed Time), Best Reaction time, Fastest Lady, Fastest 0-60 time, Best Standard car (No Mods or FI), Best NA Car (No power adder), Best FI Car, and finally “The Ernie Trophy” for Best Ute. (Only because Jez said to, of course!)

All the Trophies except for the Eliminator will use all qualifying times posted during the day. If we run the Eliminator early, you will still get the chance to improve afterwards. We may have a break for a half hour for lunch at some stage weather dependant. We’ll call it as conditions dictate.

9.30am. Arrive and park in staging lanes and register and collect raceplates. VIP Room near Start Finish. Pop your bonnets, as we could begin scrutineering earlier. Be purposeful at this time plenty of track &social time later in the day.
10.00 am Safety briefing at Start Finish area, followed by scrutineering in the staging area.
10.15 am sign on and pay your fee with your scrutineering pass. VIP Room
10.30 am Line up and Gentlemen “START YOUR ENGINES!”
Remember: On track, Skid Lid, Windows up, Covered arms & legs
12.30 Lunch break til 1.00 pm (Weather dependent)
1.00pm recommence qualifying runs.
2.00pm –2.30pm Cut off time for Eliminator qualifiers. Further runs will still count for the other Trophies. Eliminators to be held at an appropriate time (weather dependant)
4.00pm Presentation in seating area if dry. Bar if wet.
4.30 Depart for meal at The Old tramway.
5.00pm arrive Old tramway for social and meal.

If anyone would like help, advice, or mentoring, please let us know and we can allocate an experienced “Buddy” for the day.

Tips: Drive around the burnout area unless you are doing one. You will wet your tyres and loose traction. Take out excess weight. Monitor/adjust tyre pressures. Keep breathing!

For safeties sake, please keep your speed down in the pits area.
Please ensure your car is free of fluid leaks or mechanical problems.
Film Crews/Photographers. Please report ASAP to Jerry Cookson.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY COMPULSORY THAT YOU ENJOY YOUR DAY!

Cheers MyM8V8 - Gareth

Um, who's Jerry?

FYI all, I only plan on doing a few runs so will have the camera gear with me to get some shots to distribute afterwards.

I'll be up for a go at that. At 6pm today, 2 kids from our road came to the door raising charity money for the local school. They cleaned our cars, which now look horrifically dirty, complete with dirty sponge swipe marks in random places (except the roof/ bonnet/ rear window they couldn't reach) and watermarks everywhere from the fairy liquid they used. The car is more grubby than it's ever been, but I felt good helping them raise money. Ce la Vie biggrin
