Am I the only one who likes to change cars quite often?
Discussion
Was just wondering what most people did, do you keep your car for years or move it on quickly?
I was reading a topic on here, can't remember what it was, it mentioned how the car had quite a lot of owners for it's age and it got me thinking. I would move my cars on quite quickly, but it doesn't mean they have been mistreated quite the opposite, I treat them like royalty.
Anyway, how long do you tend to keep your cars?

Yes!! This was a huge problem for me too -- financially it was ruining me. For example, I had the Lambo Gallardo Spyder for 3.5 weeks at a total cost of 65 pounds per mile - or more expensive than a personal helicopter. Luckily, I found the Aston DBS - which is everything I needed and more. Still very happy after 9 months, a record for me...

I have a bigger problem.I have the itch within a few months and start trawling for my next hit and find it ..and buy it...and just dont get to the selling on stage. Now I have a garage full of cars I dont want to insure and tax for the sake of 100miles or less per year or even just the miles it takes to mot it..I even brought "my wife" another car......so I have tried to rotate the tax and insurance depending on season and what I fancy..probem is I cannot pass a bargain.I was offered another car this week and thought about it,but 3 of the same is just greedy.
I have been better this year as I have plenty of time now.I sold a car, in fact I sold 2 and since I have the momentum, have another 2 earmarked.
Damned Obsesive compulsive disorder.

Lol you guys think you are bad.
Here are the list of chap's cars that I have seen(or know of) in the last year and a bit:
Bentley Continental GTC
BMW E90 M3
Ferrari 430 Scuderia
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (red)
Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (black)
Ferrari California
Lamborghini Gallardo
Maserati Granturismo (two at the same time)
Maserati Granturismo S
Porsche 997 911 Turbo.
He normally has a new car every month or two and gets rid of the old one.

Sometimes you just have to bail. Ordered a 997 Turbo, waited a year for it, drove it for 3 months and just didn't get it, swapped it out right there and then, lost 20k.
But if it doesn't feel right you just have to let it go.
As Socrates once said: "Cars and brains don't mix."

+1Always been a problem for me. Something different is always something better! I have finally managed to come up with a system that works for me and it involves a combination of 2 or 3 cars.
Car 1 = sensible daily driver bought at one or two years old from Ford, Vauxhall, Mazda, Toyota, etc (i.e. not a prestige marquee). Used every day. Needs to be reliable, have 4 or 5 seats and a big boot. Low costs for fuel, insurance and servicing. Depreciation is high but outweighed by lack of hassle, low running costs and everyday usability. I can park it anywhere and no-one tries to steal it or vandalise it.
Car 2 = the expensive toy. Could be anything from an air cooled 911 to a Caterham (current car) to a restored classic. Must feel special to own, to look at and to drive. Garaged all year round. My pride and joy. Well cared for and maintained to the highest standard.
Car 3 = The disposable toy. Cheap toy bought for around £1000-1250 every now and again. Could be anything from a V8 / V12 luxobarg to a modified 4x4 to a tiny hot hatch (think 106 GTI, etc) to an older RWD Japanese sports car / coupe. A bit of cheap fun. Bare minimum spent on cosmestics. Sits outside on the drive.
All the best.
Martin.
