Any ideas on the wait for these?

Any deals to be had on 500s in general or are all the dealers reveling in its current popularity?

Looking to buy new.

Any dealers to avoid/praise?

Thanks all.

Why would Fiat possibly want to discount a car that they have no problem selling?
As for the 500C, unless you're a girl or similar leave well alone.

The wife is definitely a girl!
I'm reacting to the somewhat cocky dealer this morning who said he'd sold 5 new 500s this morning. It was 10am... Yep, they can sell 'em, I was wondering if there were any deals...

if all the macho idiots have left the thread, I'd be interested to hear what the convertible is like. Did you have a test drive?

ohh look at you how butch!
Actually for your info Robertf, I have driven this camp little car and was shocked by the road noise and totally gutless engines.
Why 100hp sings in the Panda but is strangled in the 500 is a mystery to me.
Get this thing above 60mph and you might as well wear a crash helmet, as for parking do it with the roof up as you can see F all with the roof down.

Hey Michael,

I'm guessing you made it down to the launch in Poole last week.... I was there on Wed/Thursday. Its a cool little car for its target market IMHO.... dynamically its OK and the engines are a bit lacking in zest but as a stylish town car for a girl to trundle around town in soaking up the sun its ideal!! It really is a handbag of a car, its a fashion/style accessory which just happens to drive in a perfectly acceptable manner. Lots of very cute style details and you can spec some really nice cosmetic options to make the whole thing feel pretty special as a static object. In its niche I think its better than a Pluriel and cheaper than a Mini Cabrio. Officially went on sale July 2nd, go have a look at one and see what you think - if you love the looks you'll probably buy it smile

Feel free to ask any more questions as a I did some miles in the 1.4 & the TD.

cheers,
Steve

I think I know what a 100hp 500 is like as I have had one for a year. Yes its a bit noisy, but its ideal for my short schoolrun/commute. And unlike the Panda it doesn't look like a pedalbin on wheels! I like the look of the convertible and wondering what its like.

Far as I am concerned people who like to label cars as girls cars really don't have an opinion worth listening to. Its not the 70's you know....

Seems to me you got opinions from two people who were at the launch of the car and drove it.

There should be a deal out there, ring enough dealers, we have no problem selling MINI's but due to so many other dealers about we cut our prices.

What does one with some kit on it come out at?

Much like pixelpimp I was thoroughly disappointed by the car as a whole,al;though having driven makes my job of selling the competition a lot easier, but if its cheap enough..

I enquired about a base model auto with no px and paying cash.
No deals "what so ever" as they can sell every one they can get at full price.
Needless to say I walked away.

no deals being done. We were at a dealers for over an hour at the weekend with couples queuing for test drives (in the poxy diesel - which was actually reasonably fruity). As one lot got out the next lot got in - they need more demos (but apparently they've sold 'em). The order books are full and there are no deals to be had even after calling round a few with a cast iron cash deal (didn't want finance at min 11.7%) and firmly decided spec. no movement at all. Don't like the Minis, too German. Haven't been overly fond of Italians before but my parents had a Fiat 500 in the Seventies and I helped my dad change the engine on that so I have a certain fondness only for that particular car, not the brand...

so... I walked away -

after having put down the deposit - delivery - wait for it - I am - earliest next March *cough*

cute car, fun drive even with 2 adults and 2 kids 1.3 74bhp diesel. going for the raging bull 100bhp 1.4 petrol. Road fund on the 1.2 is GBP 35!

Just as I suspected. Weighed down by the roof, mechanism and re-enforcement. My first car was a Panda Bianca and hoped the 500 would be as good, but the KA in a frock is even worse topless.

we just put a deposit down on a 500 1.2 lounge for the mrs . .

We were lucky and dropped on as we popped in to a local dealer and they told us that they had just been informed that there was one on the way to them in 2 weeks for a showroom model as they had just sold there other one.

It was exactly right spec etc for what she wanted and plus we don't have to wait the quoted 16 to 20 weeks for delivery

The only way to get discount on them is through the scrappage scheme

I'd have to disagree, I find my 500 pedals rather well.

(A few fellow PHers may back me up too, after a recent PH run... wink)

OK, clearly I know nothing, having owned 2 1.2 Fiat 500's counts for nothing.
