One less wedge..?
Discussion
I'm not a TVR owner (I own the opposition from Tamworth), but we've been having discussion only this week about failing rubber fuel lines. One of our cars went up in smoke due to a perished EFI hose a couple of days ago (and two more have suffered ruptured hoses as well in the last 2 days), then I see this by the side of the road this afternoon - not sure if it might be the same problem..

Given the cars are of similar ages and from the pre-unleaded area - worth checking it out? When fibreglass goes, it goes...

That is a sad sight
First thing i had done on my tvr was the fuel lines
From what i remember the engine bay section was the worst the rest of the lines under the car looked ok
The mech who did them ended up using flexible copper tubing for the majority of the length of the fuel lines ! at least it wont perish

This was on the A513 between Kings Bromley and Armitage - I suspect that the owner was taking the scenic route back from either Curborough Sprint or the Cars In The Park in Lichfield.
Forgot that the 3.9's would have been on unleaded from the start...but the 280's might not be? At the end of the day, its the age of the pipes, and there's a lot of heat under them there fibreglass bonnets!

Mine could have ended up like that a few weeks ago (probably on route to Le Mans!).
One of my injector pipes had split and neat petroleum was directed to my off-side exhaust manifold. I noticed an overwhelming smell on start-up luckily!
Changed all eight pipes just to be on the safe side

I think that the OPs message was about the pipes themselves, some of the early fuel pipes (i.e. pre-unleaded) may degrade faster because of the special solvents in newer unleaded, it wasn't engine specific.

Oh that's tragic!
I feel for the owner.
I had the big pipe from the tank(s) replaced last summer.
To the OP ...thanks for caring. The Rover engines are actually UNleaded though.

Indeed, Russ - I wasn't going to keep driving around looking for a 280 on fire..but the age of the pipes is as much of a consideration as the Leaded/Unleaded pipe question. That was more prevalent to our cars where the majority were pre-unleaded.Russ

A very sad sight indeed. No one wants to see this either to their own or anyone elses. i feared my fuel pipes would be on there way out, had them checked a couple weeks ago, and there were and needed replacing.
A big heart felt sorry to this unlucky wedger..
DO WE KNOW WHO HE IS what was the REG ?????

Phew...glad you've posted ...was getting worried !
I'd suggest checking ALL of them, though yours won't be under as much pressure, being non-EFI.
Maybe it's the 'out of sight' ones that should receive the most attention, as in the big one that runs between the tanks. This is the one that had to be replaced on mine.
