Hi guys,

I was thinking about getting a new car under the scrappage scheme, and was considering a new Focus. I was wondering which Focus model (i.e. Zetec, Zetec S, Style etc) was considered the best to have with regards to what you get for your money. Are the Style and Studio horrible and too basic?

I was also wondering what engine to get. Would a 1.6 feel a bit slow and lethargic, and should I go for the 1.8 instead?

Many thanks!

Studio is very horribly basic. Style a little less so - but it's still a stripped out 'rep special'. (I ran an LX as a company car for a couple of months - which is identical in spec. to a the new 'Style' spec.)

I wouldn't pay full list minus scrappage for one - there are much better deals out there (A 1.6TDCI Style Estate is listed at something like £18k - so £16k after scrappage) - for example, Motorpoint can do a 1 year old TDCI Style for under £9k.

Thanks a lot for the help. Ford are offering lots of discounts at the moment, so I am pretty confident I caan get a decent chunk of money knocked off. Would you say that the Zetec is the best ratio of options to price then?

Thanks again.

Zetec is better, yes.

However..... you can only get scrappage allowance against a car sold at full list price. I reckon you'd get a better deal without it.

Someone on here started a thread not so long ago saying that you could get a brand new 1.8 tdci titanium for £12k.

5th Gear mentioned some incredible discounts on the Mondeo (£7k including the scrappage IIRC).

Push for much more than just the scrappage.

Engines wise, the 1.6 Ti-VCTsomeweirdcombininationofunnecessaryletters got good reviews, smoother than the 1.8.

I think Steve commented that the 1.6 diesel was slow, but the 2.0 diesel I test drove a while back felt pretty strong.
