I was looking for a replacement wide angle drivers mirror for my 'Ro as I do a lot of lane changing daily and worried one day I will make the inevitable mistake with the blind spot. Am I right in thinking this what I found on eBay would be suitable?

As a stick-on non-original, it looks OK. Shipping cost might make it expensive. Try for the factory original from Pontiac and it'll have the proper plastic backing to clip it into the mirror head-unit.

Is this the sort of thing you were talking about?

The whole mirror assembly is around $250, so I would assume this is a GM part of just the glass? Comes to about £50 delivered.

Sorry for the late reply, been away all week.
For an extra couple of $ I'd be looking for the OEM GM part at $37 as illustrated in your second link.
