Battery Voltage

May I ask what voltage reading people get from their battery when the engine is not running?
Mine is around 12.3 is that too low?

Its a 12V battery so with the engine off then 12 is what you will see.

12v is too low, you should see around 12.75v if you put a multimeter across the terminals.

12.6-12.8 V is for a loaded batterie.
Approx. 10.5-10.8 while starting when batterie is in good condition!
13.7-14.4 voltage while driving for charging!

Thanks for all the feedback.
I have a battery brain isolator on the car but on Sat the electrics wouldn't work,
trying to work out if there is a problem with the isolator or whether i forgot to set it last w/e
and the voltage dropped below the level where the isolator is activated. So now it constantly
isolates the battery. Think it is more a fault in the isolator - all i know is I had the front wheel
of 6 or 7 this w/e - real pain

hello guys,
i have an issue with my voltage on the pod too. It shows while engine is running only a 11.8 Volts. I exchanged already the alternator but still there is this low voltage. It started with me leaving the lights on - came back, engine still started, but then the voltage dropped steadily and i was just getting home. Arriving home voltage went under 9 volts. I charged the batterie again, but now i have the 11.8 volts issue all the time...
Anybody any idea what the issue is?

Certainly sounds like the alternator but youve changed that ???
There is an Electrical guy in the UK who is top on TVR's.

I would suspect the battery is knackered and not holding the charge (Assuming the new alternator is working properly of course).

it is really strange as the batterie directly measured shows 12V on my voltmeter....i will try a new batterie and see if anything changes. if that does not change anything it must be somehow the electric system...
any other hints a very much appreciated!!

Have you checked your 100a fuse?

Yes, checked the fuse directly next to the alternator - it is ok. Also checked earth at the batterie to the chassis - should be ok too. Still i assume that the issue is related to an earth problem as the batterie lamp sometimes start to slightly flares up. Does anybody know where the earth to the engine is?

ok - i am an idiot. checked the fuse again with my voltmeter.....broken. thanks for the help.
