Now you too can drive an M3, whatever car you actually drive using the VIDEO4 system.

This turned out so cool I had to post it. I was testing some of the features of the VIDEO4 system one of which is "Alpha Blending/Masking" which basically means including bitmaps in your video, sections of which you can make transparent. The system can take 4 concurrent bulletcam feeds and conbine with any amount of txt, bitmaps, numeric data, grapical moving graphical elements, bar graphs, needles sweeps etc. The video was created in real time.

Note the views in the rearview and wing mirrors, also the needle sweep on the speedo and digital speed display.

You can also choose to display certain bitmaps based on certain conditions, so you could for instance have a dozen bitmaps of the steeing wheel that you could switch between based on the variable "steering angle" so it could look even more real, especially if you use proper dash photos.

Equally you could have 4 other variations of the car graphic each with a slight tilt, 2 to the left (one slight, one more severe) and 2 to the right. You could then switch these based on lateral g's.

Not an advert, just that I think these feautes are really cool, probably not intended to be used like this but hey smile

Sorry but that is a load of cobblers.

Out of context it is anyway. Why would you want, or need, to overlay a very dodgy image of a BMW interior over footage of a drive round your estate?

Also, you were going to quick through that built up area at the start.

Exactly. Whats the point? I, and I'm sure you will get bored of that, very quickly.

If it had throttle, brake etc sensors then I could see it being of use for track days.

Plus, 30mph is the speed limit in residential areas.

Jeez, had to double check i'd not posted in the advanced drivers thread for a moment....

Firstly, the point of producing the video was to show some of the capability of the VIDEO4. On screen you have scaled and cropped video feeds, 3 in total 2 of which are scaled and cropped and alpha masked behind the rear view and wing mirrors, the other full-screen but alpha masked behind the interior graphic. Also the overlayed needle sweep on the speedo and numeric overlayed data. The VIDEO4 can be fed from a DL1 which is capable of having ANY data that you want logged and displayed. Full OBD/CAN/ECU data plus sensor feeds for anything you care to mention. Had I a little more time I could have also overlayed a google-earth feed with live tracking on the sat nav screen, another feature of the Video4.

It's odd how responders noticed the number on the display and the fact that it was a built up area but faield to notice the car was a left-hand drive and that the speed therefore was likely to be kph and not mph. Also, apparently not bothering to read the information as to what the purspose of the video was.

whats more groundbreaking is that the actual indicators are heard to be used, in a BMW!

Very nice squire.

That's got some useful potential for driving insutruction, I'd say - risk spotting, maybe, certainly I'd like to use it for cycle training.
