I had to buy my son a Jenson Button cap - £25! a rubbish burger & sausage in a horrid bun £11; £48 to get in; petrol to get there & back etc. It's not justifiable! i know everyone needs to make money but unless you're willing (and able) to blow a few hunded pounds you have to say NO to pretty much everything your kids want.

Don't go then.It's well worth it IMO.
I had a fantastic day at Goodwood on Saturday (my first trip there). A friend of mine managed to get tickets for £40 each and I think it was excellent value for the amount to see. The F1 cars on the hill climb were awesome as was the forest rally stage - especially the Pike's Peak Quattro - amazing!

You can always be as tight as I was!!! Took all my own food and drink, saved me money and time waiting for food etc. Yes I know it means a heavy bag, but as I am trying to lose weight at the moment, the weight of the bag must get rid of a couple more calories. I didn't go round the stalls, as I knew I couldn't afford to buy anything. I was there for the cars anyway!!!

Were you the guy lying there with a mile long mat and Chicken drumsticks galore?
£20 fuel to get there,I got 4 tickets for £60 from ebay,I eat well before I went ,had a nice breckie bun with pork n leek sausages and coffee for four for £24,I have enough hats ,Had roast pork rolls for 4@£20 and filled a small water bottle from the various drinking water taps about the place.
Nice beer after in the pub by the entrance as I watched everybody else scramble for the exit ,
Cost.....£35 per head!

Only moan was I just could not get around it all!
I think that is value for money considering the drivers I saw ,listened to ,chatted to, stood next to,
and the distance I stood from the cars at full chat!
I am sure it costs many hundreds of thousands to put on a show like that, and the man has to run the estate on something.

The tickets themselves I don't think are bad value for money - there's a LOT to see/do! So kudos to Lord March for keeping it reasonably affordable, and for keeping all the big-names and big-name machines there.
The merchandising IS a rip-off...steer well-clear of it, not looking forward to the days when my child is clamouring for the stuff. But I doubt it's any different anywhere else in the world, or at any other event, so you can't blame Goodwood for that.
The food is like every other festival - of questionable quality for too much money...the 'captive audience' syndrome. Unfortunate, as that's the only real downside (location aside...see other thread) for me of the FoS.

ooh, I doubt it very much. I don't think you'd find comparable prices anywhere in Europe or America.How much are the tickets for le Mans these days? We used to buy general entrance when we got there, and IIRC for about 18 years they were always around the £30-£35 mark depending on currency fluctuations. That was for both evenings/nights of practice and the 24 hour race, they would get you in at all parts of the track and into the grandstands above the pits apart from the first 2 and last 2 hours AND the practice day in april IIRC if you bought them in time.
Goodwood is probably only paying the British game, but we seriously do pay too much. But then thats up to us.
Went Friday and Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it (as I have for the last 5 years) Compare the price per hour of entertainment with Premiership Football. GPs, Test Cricket or Major Concerts and FoS comes out on top easily. Le Mans actually costs a mega amount and the beer bought on site is double the cost of Goodwood! Then of course getting to Le Mans is an added cost. Top Gear Live at £27 for 1.5 hours of juvenile rubbish is a rip off - If you think FoS is then you definitely need to get out more

I've no idea what a le Mans ticket costs now, but in the 18 consecutive years i went the french cost remained about the same but the brit part of the equation (ie the ferry) went up four-fold.
Ive enjoyed the day in the past, but I will aggree prices for Goodwood items have always been on the high side Got free tickets to get in from a work sub contractor, took picnic and drinks, drove our 1.2 fiesta as broke our Honda accord,baulked at the programme, but bought it. Costs also included a dodge viper for my lad as he chose it £12, fuel about £15, Times freebee jezza dvd and bag £1.50, programme £12 and that was it for a fantastic day. Yes, I'm skint, but we still made the most of it.Had a free hat from Silverstone ,Astons racing, so didn't want any of them. Will go next year.
I have been to the FOS for the last twelve years and i still think it is good value if you take your own food and drinks or if you drive an Audi get free drinks on the stand.
It is great that you can see all the cars and some drivers face to face.
I walked along with Mike Brewer and had a nice chat with him, went for a passenger ride in the Cayenne and drove a Q7 around the Auddi experience track.Also listened to Frank Belia, and Jamie Rednapp interviewing Sir Bobby Charlton
previous years Jenson nearly run me over in a golf cart, met Johnny Herbert, James Toseland, Troy Corser and loads of other stars
