Agreed, but them I'm biased

On the Road by Jack Kerouac (sp?) is also very good - especially as you'll be travelling.

If you're after some non-fiction I'd also recommened 'Bad Science' by Ben Goldacre. I've just read it and it's brilliant.

Bad Science was in my eBay "shopping cart" but the bds raised the price so I didn't buy it... £1.35 is a lot of money in today's climate.
