He was a marine but now reserve and has done a medic/first aid course so will be going out to help the injured. Budget around £100.

Cheers

What about a watch like this?

World time zones so he can see "home" and "away" times to help keep in touch.

It's very slightly over budget but it's on Wernersflyingwatches so I'm sure Nick will discount it for a PH'er.

If he doesn't, let me know and I'll pay the difference. smile

While the watch is very nice and I love the watches on that site; how about a Nintendo DS with one of those cards with loads of games on? I know it's not the keepsake a watch is but it will probably help in the boring times.

Thanks, some great ideas! Will put them to my colleagues and see what they would think. Nolar Dog, that's very kind of you to offer and the watch is definitely on the shortlist!

Mexico.

Don't think they are allowed phones out there.

The iPod idea is good with loads of films and music.

No they are not. They have a nice habit of picking up transmissions and numbers and then phoning the contacts in your phone proclaiming you to be captured or dead.

The Toollogic SL30 folding survival knife. It has a 3" blade which is b*stard sharp, plus a firesteel, LED torch and whistle.

Only thing is, it seems to be sold out everywhere. frown

OK...as you were.

For my second suggestion - the contact details of the recruiting people at Control Risk...similar job (but easier and less risk), four times the pay, no tax.

Porn and bog roll. You can never go wrong with porn and bog roll.
Actually, you can... do a search for 'plate of biscuits and a nice cup of tea'.

It's a bit WWI, but how about some top quality merino wool thermal baselayers?
