... stuff under the bonnet. Mine seems to be painted with black paint. I'm probably just over a week from (trying) to get a MOT and it crossed my mind with all the heat under the bonnet should I have something in place to protect the paint work or is it not needed.

Not usually. If you're lucky there'll be some sound deadening material glued to the bonnet, but it's not reflective! Though I guess it may keep the bonnet a bit cooler...

Most of the wedges i've seen do have some sort of material glued to the underside,but as Wedg1e said it's not heat reflective, Mine is a black vinyl('ish) covered sponge affair with TVR embossed on the middle,but it keeps coming unglued at the edges!

Another 390SE series 2 here and same here, a thick TVR embossed rubber liner glued to the bonnet.

90% of your heat will come from your exhaust. Easiest solution it to ceramic coat your headers in/outside for lower temps. I just did it for my car, for less than $300. Maybe 200 quid to you? It'll also protect the headers from rust and if you believe the claims, give you a better exhaust flow, thus more power too.
