I would like to replace the coil on my Tasmin 280i - am I safe to assume that a suitable replacement would be a coil from a Granada / Capri 2.8i - the bible says that a ballast resistor was fitted to the Ford Engine Tasmins. Can anybody advise ??
Cheers

It has been painted and it is impossible to read anything from the coil

Yep, it would be a ballasted coil on the 2.8i. The primary runs at a nominal 8v or so normally (via the resistor). When cranking, the resistor is bypassed to allow full battery volts to the coil to guarantee a spark.

Most coils are stamped with their operating voltage on the bottom; a good coat of Dulux would hide this, however biggrin

That being the case then would a Granny or Capri 2.8i coil do the job.

I've got this gathering dust. Does anyone know if it would go straight on my 390SE?
