hi everyone, have got a bit of a dilemma.

am currently looking for a 355 spider, i am after a black, silver or blue one....not red / yellow and has to be a manual. so far have only found one possible and it needed a lot of work on it to sort it out but unfortunately the lady selling it thought that it was immaculate so wouldnt budge on price so i walked away. due to the small amount of spiders about i am considering a gts...simon furlonger has a really nice black one, what do we think about gts 355's? are they generally the cheaper version of the 355 after the gtb and teh spider.

my other dilemma is that i also really like 456's an i know of a really nice one that has just come up, so would i be better buying a nice 456 rather than comprimising with a 355 gts?

all input welcome.

each to their own...I specifically wanted a gts. I like the lines of the berlinetta & wanted to keep with that shape. I don't like the look of the spider with the roof up. GTS seemed to be the best of both worlds & I wouldn't swap mine for either a gtb or a spider...you just need to decide what you like!

You did say all input welcome so hopefully you will take this in the spirit intended smile

You seem to be torn between a car with 4 seats, a V12 engine in the front and a roof, or a car with 2 seats, a V8 engine in the back and no roof. If you go for the 2 seats and V8 engine you seem to be unsure whether to hang on for the full convertible or a targa (which is actually much closer to a Berlinetta than a Spider)

Without meaning to seem blunt, nobody is going to be able to offer any meaningful advice since the cars are so different. Perhaps having a drive in both a 456 and a 355 (apologies if you already have done) then deciding on 2 seats or 4 seats would be a good start. For what it is worth, I wanted a red Ferrari and had a 355 Berlinetta because I wanted a 355 with a roof because I thought the shape looked fab. I now have a 360 Spider because I fancied a convertible and much prefered the 360 Spider look to the 355 Spider look. It wouldn't have matered how many folk said that the 456 was a great car (I am sure it is) since it was just such a different proposition. I am sure that once you get a bit of focus as to what you really want then there will be tons of help and advice to assist in sifting out a good one from the rest. Again, for what it's worth, I thought the Blue / Creme 355 Spider in your other thread looked very classy but since it obviously isn't red it wouldn't have even registered with me if I were looking to buy. Good luck anyhow smile

I had a GTS through choice as it gives you the best of both, Spider F355 is not good looking with roof up and has a lot of scuttle shake. The GTS if used on track is better with the roof in place as this keeps it more rigid.
As Renmure said you need to decide what you REALLY want first V8,V12 2 seats 4 seats???

That's odd, my Spider doesn't appear to suffer? if anything I'd reckon the GTS was a little worse

Come on Mark ALL cars that have the roof removed have scuttle shake the F355 is no different the GTS at least can have the solid panel in place to firm it up when required unlike the spider wink

When I bought my 355, it was difficult to find exactly what I wanted. I thought about compromising or buying one and having it retrimmed/resprayed but in the end if you just wait the right one will come up. f it doesn't then you could always have it resprayed any colour you want for about £3k.

Hope that helps and lets us know how you get on.
