Can anyone help ?. My 05 93K miles TDCI has started to hunt at fixed speeds particularly in 3rd gear and blows out puffs of black smoke. Fuel consumption is normal and it is not burning oil. This started while on holiday in France towing a caravan but it got us home safely. Any comments would be appreciated as this is my first oilburner.

look for a split in any of the hoses on the boost side of the intake. favourite is down on the n/s of the engine compartment coming up near the p/s pump. £25 quids worth recently, at least dick turpin had the decency to wear a mask...

Paul - you did well to pay £25 -the local Ford dealer has just quoted £45 and he has none in stock. It is the hose from the intercooler to the inlet manifold - can anyone suggest a cheaper supplier ?

Admittedley, trade discount. Also mine has the earlier hose, it was modified in later production life. The modded version requires a rigid tube, two peices of hose and a couple of hose clips. The easy way to tell them apart is that the early version has ends of unequal diameter.
