Hi guys,
I’m currently building a kit and wonder what items are considered major components.. I hope to use triumph documentation and will use Triumph front suspension / steering. MGA rear axel and I hoped ford engine / box but I’m guessing I’m rather short of 2 major components and will need to use triumph engine / box…
Anyone know how they asses what’s acceptable..

You don't mention the chassis.
You will not retain the original number unless you retain the chassis plus 2 major parts.
You may get an age related plate if you can build up enough points from the list here
If you think you will get an age related then you may be able to put your original number on retention.

Steve, the bit you've linked to is for registering a radically altered vehicle. That is the case when points for components are needed. However, that specifically excludes kit cars, and it is this page ( http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSell... ) entitled registering a rebuilt vehicle, kit car and kit conversion which related to kit cars and does not need points, simply major components (which it details).You will not retain the original number unless you retain the chassis plus 2 major parts.

Thanks guys for the replies, sorry for not coming back sooner....
I’m building a Lotus 15 replica .. home designed chassis with widened fiberglass body work taken from an original car.. anyway its already 25 years old and not much further….
I have a 66 Bond Equipe green log book and as the car is using Triumph front suspension and steering I was hoping to use the Bond papers … hence the idea of triumph engine / box to build up the points… After reading the various links provided, it seems as it’s a kit its not possible, so I’ll proceed with the original idea of fitting a ford engine and box.
The plan is to use a mixed of 60’s running gear and a set of wires …
