Hi
I've been having problems with my air con belt jumping off the drive pulleys on my 320d touring(E46). Each time I replace it it sheds itself after only a couple of minutes driving. I've checked the crankshaft pulley(vibration dampener) as I've been told these can deteriorate and cause this problem. All seems to be ok there. I've also been told that the crank and pump pulleys sometimes get out of line and cause the belt jump. There does seem to be some mis-alignment, however I can't see where I can adjust the alignment on the pump and there's no tensioner fitted to adjust.
Has anyone any experience of this problem?

Cheers
Rich

Yes, had same problem a few weeks ago,on an 05 320d E46. I was unable to see anything wrong with the drive pulley on the crank but when it was changed, you could see it was u/s.

Replacement pulley together with both multi-vee belts + labour at local independant set me back about £380. Not cheap but it was the first 'breakdown' bill I have had on BMW in approx 6 years.

Thankfully the air con was working fine last week!

Hi HRH
It sounds like I ought to check the pulley with both belts off .
Thanks for the info.
