So what tyres are the ones to go for these days?

I was going to get some R888's but im wondering if they are overkill. Are they really that bad in the wet?

The useage of the car will be pure hooning. Cant imagine i will take it on track but she will certainly be driven "spiritedly"

Any help appreciated.

I have Toyo T1R on the front.
Aquaplanes in puddles and makes it very interesting to drive in the wet.

Great in the dry and no understeer at all, as the back end always goes first which are Dunlop 3000 somthing or other!

But I have just put a new set of Avon ZZ3's on my A8 and boy are they good!
So good I will probably be getting them next time for the Cerb.

Moved from Toyo's to Falkens. Happy with both but the Falken's are much cheaper and probably therefore going to be better value. The only caveat to that is that I don't know yet how quickly they will wear - if they end up only lasting half as long as the Toyo's then it will obviously become much a muchness.

mike

the best B list are R888's they are great unless there is alot of stnading water and then pretty much all tyres cease to work anyway - you will have alot more fun with them

They'll never be as grippy as your slicks, so I'd go with road tyres (1a's) like T1R's - more slidey, more burnoutable, cheaper and quieter.

This is a good point. I want this car to be fun. Not to worried about how quickly it would lap a track. Maybee a less grippy tyre could be fun?

Jezs how progressive are r888's?

T1R's are excellent hooligan tyres. Biiiiig burnouts, nice slides and very little wear. Im sure others will favour other brands, but for us, the T1R's have only been bettered by S02's as 1a tyres, definately worth a shout for a more road-biased car. thumbup

The falkens are pretty good as well, not much between them and the T1R's.

I've had SO3s, Falken 451 & 452 and currently PZeros. The Pirellis are the grippiest, the only tyre I've had that can consistently handle full bore 2nd gear. They got nice and gooey after a few laps of the track. Surprisingly sticky if that's what you're after.

Be aware that the Falkens start off very well, but don't age well, mine have plenty of tread left but are now hard as nails!

Ben, there are other 1a tyres around that are as good as the Toyos and BS 02. I think it's misleading to say that there is only one good 1a tyre. yes

This may be of interest to anyone with slight rubbing on the rears. I changed from Bridgestone SO3s 255/35/18 which rubbed slightly, to Goodyear F1s same size and they don't!

mike the 888's are completely predictable and very progressive until you overheat them and then they turn into chewing gum and its pot luck wahat happens. In hooligan mode I overheat them in 2 hard laps at Goodwood so they aren't great for track days if you push really hard. this is wahat makes them good for sprinting - they heat up fast

if you drive within the limits of the car however they dont tend to overheat and work well for ages

What compound are you running Jes?

My Dunlops are similar, from the sounds of it, had the texture of a wine gum after half a dozen 'fun' laps of Brands. I'm running a hard/medium compound. biggrin

I have Falkens fitted to mine and do all my driving with "Spirited enthusiasm". In Terms of wear i am very pleased with them, 14k from the rears which i thought was not to bad considering what they have been through. The fronts did ware quicker on the insides though due to the camber settings. still loads of tread left on the main body of the tyre though.
