Is it the done thing to wear underpants underneath cycling shorts i.e, normal boxers/Y's ?

If not, why not?

Thanks.

not unless you have enough vaseline down there to sink a ship!...

if you wash the padding in the bibshorts frequently to avoid any fungal growth etc you wont need any extra lining. hte shorts will be designed to be worn with nohting underneath. most pads are anotomically designed to do so.

Nope, when wearing lycra I wear nothing underneath. It usually looks stupid (VPL) unless you have baggies over the top and it's fecking uncomfortable.

No, no and thrice no!!

Another layer equals great risk of rucking of material and friction... feel the chamois and for extra comfort feel the chamois cream on chamois!!

ah oh that's just me is it ??

An acquantance of mine wore no under pants period, had a guy at school never wore socks, strange but true.

Personally I do wear underpants under the lycra, just seems the thing to do, obviously each to their own.

It doesn't seem weird to you, then, to fork out for a pair of anatomically designed, padded, sport-specific shorts and then ruin the entire point of wearing them in the first place by shoving a pair of your knackered old generic grundies inside them? rolleyes

In fairness in the ads for bib shorts it never seems to state "no need to wear undercrackers".

I'd been wondering the same thing myself, and now I know too smile

I went off the edge of one of the fast fire road descents on the old Redbull run a long time ago and tore the arse out of my bicycle shorts on the tree that kindly stopped my potentially very long fall. Could of done with a pair of pants then to protect my honour and my mates' eyes. Fortunately I was wearing bib shorts and just folded the bib back into the shorts. Et voila! No more winking of captain brown eye!

The only time I wear pants under my shorts if I have abused my stomach to breaking point. A removable extra layer can be so useful!

Leave your pants in the car, it is one of the best feelings ever to peel off a sweaty pair of lycra shorts and slip into a pair of baggy boxers. Think of it as a battery hen being upgraded to free range.

I've always worn more than one layer, have no idea why, but on the rare occasion, I'm happy to wear just my bibs. If you don't feel comfortable wearing nothing underneath, get yourself some padded undershorts (which is what I have), double padding and the same feel as boxers biggrin
