Just bought an X-type D Sports
Discussion
Sorry, I'm sure its sad for the rest of you, but I thought I'd poke my nose in here and tell you that as of Monday next week I'll be a Jag owner. Never thought I'd own a 'Jag' and I know people look down their nose at X-types and especially as its Diesel AND an estate but I'm a bit excited about it.
Its going to feel damned slow compared to the BMW 3 series 2.2 petrol I'm coming out of but it will be a motorway cruiser so hopefully a nice comfortable mile muncher.
Best of all, I now own 3 BRITISH cars!

Thanks Andy.
No Sat Nav in mine, but thats not a worry, both me and Mrs B have Tom Tom units.
In fact mine was dead and I resurected it on the basis of not wanting to be tied to looking only at cars with sat nav.
I'll get some pictures when it arrives. Let you know who to be avoiding on the roads
Its grey though, so another stealth wagon.

Here is some very very early feedback, as I've only managed 3 days with the car and 3 trips out.
Handling is pretty good considering its an estate, though I've yet to push it.
Its noisy, but that could be because I've moved from a 3 series saloon to an estate. And estates are notoriously noisier than saloons.
The ride is soft yet crashy over bumps and potholes. I don't know how the two go together, I'd have thought they were mutually exclusive!
As a M/way cruiser its good though, the engine picks up great at that important 50-70 overtaking speed.
The kick at around 1800rpm is really noticeable. Its my first 'proper' diesel car (I have a 2.5td landrover but that doesn't count) so the way the engine delivers power is going to take some getting used to. It doesn't break traction easily though, which for a FWD car is surprising, so it makes things nicely predictable and a real plus for Jaguar.
Its comfy, although I'm going to have to do something about the seatbelt stalk squeaking against the seat bolster. Its driving me nuts already.
Spec in the car I have is rubbish. No cruise, no reverse sensors, no sunroof, no CD changer, not even an average fuel consumption. I feel like its a real backward step from my BMW320 which is 6years older. Yes, I know its my own stupid fault for not checking some of these, but you kind of expect these things from a Jag IYKWIM.
Where are all the little pockets for coins and sunglasses etc? There are loads of places they could have put some clever little places to hide stuff you don't want toerags seeing.
Mrs B. likes it, so perhaps I'm too busy getting over the lack of spec just at the minute to appreciate the car and as I get used to it for what it is, and its practically, I will like it more.
Sadly though, right now I'm a little disappointed - mainly in myself for not spotting that most of the 'essentials' on my list weren't actually in this car

Its a 2006 2.0d SE Sports Estate.
Like you say, hopefully its going to grow on me, theres nothing actually wrong with the car, and had I not had such high expectations, which I seemed to have completely ignored when I viewed and test drove the Jag, I wouldn't be so critical. So really I'm kicking myself rather than the car.
One thing I forgot to mention. Did Jag steal the brake pedal for the manual cars out of an automatic?
The gap between accelerator and brake is practically none existent.

Hi Barreti,
seems like you have missed a few goodies there
personally when i looked around for one , my wish list was Sat nav, cd changer, trip comp, cruise,
full leather,
i think the satnav/entertainment system on these was a 2500 gbp upgrade, and have to say that with the voice command system is very good, and will no doubt help to sell the car on in the future,
a mate of mine bought a saloon without the goodies, and was a little down when he saw what mine had,
hope it grows on you or,
alternatively go and buy an xk to compliment your x type
and just use the x type for the skip run
sorry you are not enjoying

Real Jaguar drivers heel-and-toe. It's a Moss/Hawthorn thing. The gap between accelerator and brake is practically none existent.

Let's see some pictures when you get a chance.

I do this in the Griffith, where I have adjustable pedals and have them set up correctly, and where I worry about the torque brake effect when downshifting a rear wheel drive V8. It didn't think it was necessary in FWD Diesel

Pics coming soon. Promise.

Nice wheels, Moxey. Are those Jaguar items? They look similar to the ones that were optional on the run out XK8/XKR?
They do look very similar to the BBS Perseus xk wheels, which were 20" , i think moxeys will be 17"s or 18"s
nice car by the way Moxey

Yes I believe they are. I bought the car as Grange in Exeter's demo, and those wheels were on it - a £1000 option apparently. The car is specced pretty much how I wanted it, except for the fact it had those wheels, voice commands and silver roof rails put on by the dealer. I was also looking to get the car in black too, but when this was available, well it'd be rude not to. I have a pic of the cabin too if you're interested.Just found the AVC setting on the radio !
Which means I've finally found one of lifes little luxuries which I previously thought I'd 'lost'
Setting it is confusing, so here it is for anyone else to find in the future.
AVC adjusts the radio volume according to the speed of the car.
To set it, turn on the radio and let go of the button.
Now press the On/Off button and hold it. After about 3 secs the display will change to AVC OFF. If you leave the radio alone now it will accept AVC OFF and go back to the radio display after around 3 seconds.
To turn AVC on you press On/Off as above until AVC OFF is displayed then turn the On/Off button left/right to adjust the sensitivity - oddly, the smaller the number the bigger effect.
Once you have the sensitivity correct leave the button alone and after around 3 seconds it will return to the radio display with AVC active.
I think you can also re-press the On/Off button to return to the radio display, but I found the above more predictable because pressing the button for a short time cycles between AVC OFF and sensitivity setting and you can inadvertently set AVC OFF when you really just wanted to adjust it!
