Turbo Guage

I think I might be having a problem with the turbo guage.When the engine is off it reads just below zero but going through the revs it flickers from just over 0 to a minis reading not a plus .I am unfamiliar with these guages and turbos so can you help ?

Sounds about right.

get yourself a nice long bit of road with sod all on it, stick it in third and plant it to the floor, should then briefly get up to full boost of 0.7 bar on a GTO-3

I agree. From what I`ve seen not all gauges always go back exactly to zero when you stop the engine. Under `normal` steady driving conditions there is a vacuum in the inlet manifold so the gauge reads negative (typically about 0.5 bar). When you accelerate hard and let the revs go up the turbo boost comes on stream and the gauge should go positive and peak around 0.7 bar - or there abouts.

You have that yellow 2-5 from driven image don't you. Are they not a higher boost pressure?

My take on it, but others here will probably come along and correct it...

I thought the standard 2.5s ones made 310 BHP @ .75 bar. With the 340 BHP offical factory map on, I think I remember Trevor posting that there was a temporary boost spike to .9 bar. If it is sustained at 1 bar then sounds like somebody has had it modded. If it is running the old ECU it has probably had the actuators changed or is leaking air on the actuator signal side of things (intentionally or not). If it has the later MBE ECU, then I think it can be done on the map, through an electronic boost controller.

mines the same. 2.5 gto, recently remapped by trevor and he confirmed that with electronic boost controller and 340bhp upgrade that it runs at around 1 bar. mine shoots to 1.4bar then settles instantlty at a sustained 1 bar.

I think all the cars that have the mbu ecu have an associated boost module which means the ECU can control the boost via the map (presumably by manipulating the pressure on the actuator feeds). Not sure what causes the overboost, but I assume it is the latency between the selected pressure being reached and the wastegate actually opening.

yes - if it was not set up correctly

Can't imagine the turbos boosting to 1.4 even for a short time can do them much good either.
