Is the oil level rising in the sump?

If you can hear it going in something is very wrong. Terminally cracked cylinder head, or failed core plug possibly, terminally failed head gasket maybe also.

Is it a V8 or diesel?

I'm struggling to take this thread seriosly - troll maybe?
This is quite an unusual failure for a BMW engine. So with the sump plug left out and drained of water/oil - and you filling the HEADER/EXPANSION tank up, you see water comming out the bottom of the sump. You are putting the water in the correct place?

Taking the heads off will tell you nothing

if water is coming straight out when you put it in there is a serious hole somewhere between the water jacket and the crank case.
suggest taking the sump off and lay underneath with a torch while friend puts water in. you may be able to see where it is comming from while getting an eye-full of oily water wink
