Pressing window buttons
Discussion
Hi, another in what is possibly a long series of daft questions....what does pressing the window buttons on the center console actually do ? I get the rotation to move window up and down, and the LED reflecting the controller activity. But why make the button pressable ? Reset something ?

In my car (Mk1) they do nothing, although the hand book advises that they open the doors. But they don't!!!
This was a feature on the very original MK1s. However, due to the fact you could bang your leg on the switch whilst driving it was decided to move the door open switch. The 'door open' function was removed to the buttons either side of the radio because the 'interlock' function didn't always work. If you notice, the little green LED flashes when you are going anything over about 3-5 mph. It senses the movement of the car and prevents the buttons from working. Try it on your 'radio' buttons and you'll notice you can't open the doors if the car is doing anything more than a slight crawl. It's because the interlock failed and a press of the buttons would open the door that the decision was made to change to the radio buttons.
I'm also advised (from a thread here many eons ago) that if you can find the right wire (a grey one I seem to recollect) you can wire it into your stereo (features permitting) and the volume will rise as the road speed rises (as you get in many modern cars, typ Ford and Vauxhall)
