I am looking to spend a maximum of £1000 on a watch. It needs to be smart but not too dressy and not quartz. Currently i like the Stowa Marine Original with roman numerals like this:

I love the style of IWC portuguese and aquatimer cousteau divers editions but that's obviously not doable on my budget. Would prefer new but would go used for something really special but not vintage as it will be worn quite often. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks
Dan

Agreed, the stowa is a very nice watch.

I'd never really looked into them before as I'd always assume from the pictures they were out of budget but looking at Stowa's website they're a bargain!

LOVE the Stowa, just LOVE it! biggrin

Perfect in my eyes with the roman numerals and brown croc strap. If your heart is calling you, then you know it makes sense! However looking around and choosing is all part of the fun of buying a new watch!

At the risk of being repetitive and boring, have you looked at the Sinn range?

I`ve just discovered Stowa and that watch is gorgeous, the only Sinns I can see to rival it are the Klassics but I couldn't put up with the central minute hand with hours on a sub dial.

Thanks for the thoughts. Longines current range doesn't do a lot for me but there are a few recentish ones i like, although to my mind i feel the image isn't great because of how often you see them in shops kind of like tag heuer trading on a once great name with mass produced mass sold watches. I do like soe Sinns but most of the nicer ones fall outside my budget but i'll definitely keep an eye out for used bargains.

If you think Stowas are gorgeous then discover the world of Dornbluth. Expensive, but absolutely gorgeous! Not at all in the £1,000 bracket but just to die for.

Hamilton do a Jazzmaster Maestro that has overtones on an IWC. Not enough to make it look like a wannabe though...

Should be yours for under £1K so a bit of change to get a beater with!

All the best

Funny - last time this watch came up you said it looked nothing like. Perhaps make your mind up...
