What a (seemingly) unnecessary shame...

Just found out that the OH's cousins' boyfriend (no Jeremy Kyle piss takes please!) has lost both his legs and also an arm out in Afghanistan.
Really does make you think when something terrible happens to someone you know/care about that this "war" is just so costly. I never really felt too bad when I read about wounded soldiers returning from action, but seeing how this is going to affect the young lad has really made me think.
I just hope there is a swift withdrawal from the fighting, I would not wish this horror on my worst enemy.

Was it caused by one of those improvised explosive devices?
They are f
king cowards mate - they wouldn't have the balls to fight toe to toe.
Don't know what else to say mate but thats gutting news and really our boys should be home.
Don't know, I have only heard it from the MiL but she said to me that they had only received minor details about the injuries as they don't want lots of reporting on the current operation they have going on out there. They are f

Truly appalling. I've never really understood from day one what our soldiers are doing out there. I understand the theory that it's to keep the Taliban at bay, but I go along with the view that the war is only serving to help them recruit more members and gain more support.
I while ago I saw a program where a reporter followed troops on their manouvers. Basically they left their base at say 0600, made their way towards a farmsted, fought of and kept at bay Taliban soldiers until say 1400, then went back to base. As soon as they left the farm the Taliban went straight back. Repeat for weeks/months on end, with a few casualties along the way... Great.

Poor b

Never fails to amaze me the work that these guys do.

+1 Don't support the reasons they are out there but the troops on the ground have 100% of my support.

I note that your location is UK as a whole - drop me a PM if he's based in Scotland.
There is a huge amount of help for veterans available throughout the UK, as long as people know that they can ask for it.
To the OP - Really sorry to hear that, IMHO its time our boys came home, they have my full respect though doing a great job in terrible conditions.

History shows victory in the 'stan is impossible. As soon as the occupying forces pull out civil war erupts. This has been going on for hundreds of years.
see this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbK76okexVk for an illustration of why the plan to train the police/army to take over is doomed to failure. (i know it says iraqi)
Sorry to hear about another hero coming home broken. Ihe guys out there deserve more (equipment, aftercare etc)
