1980's Watch Suggestions please
Discussion
UPDATED CRITERIA
As im sure you remember I recently asked for help for suggestions a watch for a graduation present and naturally I ended up having many brilliant suggestions to choose from and finally made a choice in the Tissot PRC 200.
However it was mentioned (by a kind soul that my parents wallet is cursing!) that I should look at vintage watches, I then saw in another thread a suggestion to get a watch from the year they were born. I mentioned this to my Father who liked the idea.
As a result I am looking for suggestions on a 'proper' watch, Auto movement, from 1986.
Ideally I would love a Omega Speedmaster Pro Moon Watch from 1986. Though to be honest if I could get a speedy pro or moon watch from any year for the money I would seriously consider it. So..
First of all guys is this possible? Can I get what I want do you think? If so where to look?
OR
Are there other suggestions on 'proper watches' Omega, Rolex for example from 1986 that I could get in budget? Or failing that any omega, rolex etc of a more recent age that I could get within budget or to look out for?! Im utterly new to this, though completely hooked, and really need some advice on what sort of watches I could get in my budget.
Budget is approx £500-£800 if the perfect watch arose.
I have seen a couple of examples on eBay though am wary, any recommendation on sellers or places to look/ try?
This watch is to be kept forever as a graduation present from my parents & as they want it to be something special that I can be proud of.
Thanks
Edward.

Evening guys.
Sorry I haven't replied earlier, I have been looking out for vintage watches that appeal on the site suggested & have been keeping an eye on the for sale threads at TZ as well as Ebay.
I'm going to fine tune my request for help really:

Not sure if this is from the 80's or not but I think it's a class watch. I have just bought a watch from this guy and I'm waiting for it to bedelivered. At the mo Fedex have it!

Steve that is without doubt a lovely watch. Definately something I would like to have added to my collection, once it gets started, at some point in the future. However for now I am still looking for an elusive graduation present, preferring a bracelet watch perhaps. Thanks for the recommendation of an ebay seller, I am keeping an eye on his items for sale.
If anyone can help offer any suggestions of watches to look out for within my budget, or if it is possible to get a speedy within my budget I would love to learn from ANY and ALL advice and suggestions. I have updated and tweaked what I am looking for if that helps.
Im in this watch game for the long haul so many thanks for the help I have recieved so far.

You'll be doing well to get a speedy pro for £800, although I think Tertius picked one up off TZ-UK for about that sort of money.
I assume you already know, but they're handwound, not automatic, unless you go for one of the reduced models.
Thanks for your reply, I did realise they were handwound, I apologise for my ignorance as I classed everything non quartz as automatic ( I assume you already know, but they're handwound, not automatic, unless you go for one of the reduced models.
i know) I have since started to scratch the surface of what is out there - you'll have to bear with me at times
I think I have had to let the Speedy Pro dream go - it can be a present to myself sometime in the near future

I am now rather taken by the Omega Seamaster, especially in Aqua Terra and Railmaster forms. I can see this style still looking the part in 20 or 40 years time. Indeed on ebay they have Seamasters from the 50's and 60's that still look utterly gorgeous. Whilst I do like the diver style Seamasters in Steel and Black face, I think that the Aqua Terra and Railmaster may offer more longevity, though I am tempted by the diver style as a more every day look!
Chances of finding these within budget more likely? Pro's Cons of them? Are these watches well thought of? Hold value well or not?
Many Thanks.
I've got a Brosnan era quartz Seamaster...

Rock solid, and still love it to pieces 9 years on. Bought a Monaco as a 30th present to myself, so the Seamaster sees less wear, but being a quartz that does it no harm. If you weren't going for a birth year watch, then something like this would do the job.

I reckon it's probably go for about £600 or so.

I am without doubt tempted by a Seamaster, though personally prefer the black bezel and would ideally like one that isn't a quartz, the auto version is one that I am keeping an eye out for though.[pic]http://www.omegawallpaper.com/seamaster/ruckdee007SeamasterV2.jpg[/pic[

In a further update I have decided to ditch the birth year idea as the entire time I have been looking, which is a couple of months now I have not seen a single watch from 1986 and, if im honest, aren't keen on some of the watches from the 1980's that I have seen come up on ebay etc.
As a result I am narrowing down my search and dropping the birthyear criteria, initially, to a pre-owned watch of any age.
I am currently looking at the Sea Master Aqua Terra and would appreciate peoples thoughts on this watch and likelihood of getting one in budget.
As ever keep your suggestions and advice coming!

You'll be doing well to get a recentish auto Seamaster for under £800 I reckon, but you might be lucky.
Have a mooch round watches.co.uk and chronomaster for an idea on prices.
Aqua Terra is nice enough, but does remind me of a lot of the 70's Seamasters that you could probably pick up for much less.
Try having a look at GMTs too, they're nice.
Ultimately it's your choice though, so don't listen to us too much, buy the one you REALLY want. It'll be with you a long time.
If the one you do really want is a couple of hundred quid more, save up for 2-3 months more. Or just stay off the beer for a month.
