Anyone watch this the other night on more 4?
Set in Louisianas state prison "Angola" - it was a follow up to the 1997 documentary on the same place.
Very interesting but not as good as I expected it to be.
Massive place - 5800 prisoners - bigger than the town i grew up in!
I think the sta was 95% of the population were serving sentances with no chance of parole or whole life sentances or awaiting execution.
The cells in the cell blocks though were absolutly tiny - two men in each as well, but the more trusted prisioners slept in dorm like conditions.
Bit of an eye opener - one guy who they follwed up on had been sent down for life for the rape of two 14 year old twins - he refused to admit to his guilt, some of the evidence agasint him was interesting though - the doctors statement for one of the girls confirmed the fact that she was a virgin and she confessed to never having had sex, and at the police lineup the accused was the only guy wearing handcuffs!
Also included an interesting look at a parole board meeting - that was an eye opener.
Anyone else see it?

That struck me as a little more than odd. Surely if convict and give two life sentences to someone for rape, andthey have evidence from a Doctor that states one of the girls is still a virgin, and she's also confessed to never having sex then he should be acquitted? How can you be convicted of a crime such as rape when clearly one rape never took place?Set in Louisianas state prison "Angola" - it was a follow up to the 1997 documentary on the same place.

And the way the parole board dealth with him in 1997 seemed rather harsh. "He did it", "If I'd been inside for twenty years I'd coem up with something too". FFS, he didn't 'come up with something', he clearly has evidence that one crime couldn't have taken place.
ETA: I assume at this point, allowing him a retrial to present his evidence could prove very embarassing for them and if he was to be freed he'd be looking at some serious compensation? Better to keep him locked up I guess.

I thought exactly that - as soon as he was out of the room, and the door was shut, they were quite happy to sign him away.
Notice also how they were chattign away and then one of them kinda indicated that the camera man was still there and they shut up pretty quickly.....
it didn't seem quite right but maybe there is more to it than we saw, after all he's had a fair few appeals turned down at various appeal courts as well....

You can read the statements here:Notice also how they were chattign away and then one of them kinda indicated that the camera man was still there and they shut up pretty quickly.....

I have to wonder what sort of rapist gets his victim to drop him at home? Also, the twins had a male cousin with them at the time of this attack. Apparently they met him at a gas station, got pally with him, then he asked for a lift which they gave him. Then he supposedly forced the guy to get in the trunk along with one of the sisters, raped one for half an hour, then put her in the trunk, raped the other, then put her back in the trunk, then raped the first girl again for another 30 mins before letting them all out and getting them to drive him home. Yeah, that makes loads of sense.
