Just wondering whether people are having trouble finding candidates for roles they may be looking to fill?

The HR folks in our business are re advertising a position for me now because first time round I wasn't exactly overwhelmed with interest!
There were also quite a few people who may have had the right qualities, but were incredibly optimistic in their salary expectations (basically it is a 30k role, and plenty were flying in with mid 40's...).

With the state of the economy and unemployment high, I would have thought there would be more interest and more realistic salary expectations... or is it that case that if someone is in a role it would take a pretty big carrot to get them out of it with times as they are?

p.s... if anyone wants to be a Quality Assurance Engineer in Medical Devices... wink

Sounds like either all those people with the right qualities aren't going to get jobs, or someone else is offering them more money. Either way, they seem to think they can get more than you're offering?

(God no, I don't want a job in QA!)

Agreed they may be, but I have looked on monster etc, and there aren't a great deal of QE roles paying too much more

You are definitely not in the minority there

Can't think of many functions in a business where there is less competition for jobs though... wink

I'll do it if you ask me nicely.

I may require a bit of training though first.

I'm surprised by that Nick. Where abouts are you..?
Good Engineer roles are far between at the moment. Even QA.

I've been applying for a couple of months now in the product development / Design sector.
Not necessarily in Medical though, although I've dealt with FDA and others with food contact and hygiene products.

What skills are you looking for..? FMEA, Six Sigma, Vendor assurance or ISO 13485..
Job spec..?

Nope, Abingdon (Oxfordshire), I am not sure if it has made it back out externally... though it is just an advert on Monster with a link to the splendid Generous (General) Electric careers website... rather than through an agency.

We engineer and manufacture (then transfer operations to lower cost countries, i.e Mexico) gradients for MRI scanners.

Theory is the candidate would be embedded in the project teams, helping them with Design Controls. Main focus would be on Design Transfer to operations (process validations) etc, potentially the part qualification (we have just implemented the automotive style of part qualification, PPAP in that language I understand).
The main selling point for someone would be demonstrable experience of Process Validation using the FDA type method... so IQ/OQ/PQ etc
The role would be much more than this (process metrics, defect investigation, be nice to help with lean efforts etc), but I should stop typing before 99.9% of the working population head to the roof for a swan dive wink
