anyone done 'stelvio' tour with continental car tours
Discussion
Have not done that particular tour with CCT, but used them 6 times for other events in mainland Europe. Everything went swimmingly well until the last time i used them, wil not go into ALL the details but Johnathan (the Proprietor) really f***** the tour up with very bad planning, (how does organising a Champagne Tour to a Champagne House in rural France WHICH WAS CLOSED WHEN WE ARRIVED. Being Easter Sunday was obviously not worth checking months before if the place would be actually be open....) Then the same day of this "Escorted Tour" he abandoned the 12 of us in Epinay, saying he had an emergency back in Dover and had to go IMMEDIATELY there. He advised us "Just drive to Reims and follow the signs to the Piper Heidsink factory, its easy to find, BYE!) so we did the rest of the escorted trip on our own. Imagine our surprise when we spotted his car outside a posh restutrant 200yds away in Epinay with the other "richer" element of the participants, and by the time we actually found Piper Heidsink (30 minutes before closing) after driving round for the streets of Reims for an hour, HE WAS RIGHT AT THE FRONT OF THE QUEUE with said other people again. Complete T***er.
RE; Stelvio, of the top of my head for about £1,600 per car you get 2 return Ferry crossings, and Hotels with evening meals included. You with probobly spend half of that again on fuel and Tolls. So about £2,500 for the trip. Then you have spending money on top. You can do it yourself for HALF that, all those mountain roads are free to use. We did 10 days in the Alps for £1,000 including beer money by staying in Ibis Hotels ect. and a bit of camping around Monte Carlo and Nice. I am sure it may be a good trip but cheap it isn't.
