While on holiday in france and spain last month I tryed my hand at doing some street portraits shooting from the hip. Much of it was trial and error holding the camera at hip height and busting a load of frames stood in a crowd.

These are the few that I think worked. C&C welcome if you'd like to add.

They look a bit too HDRey for my taste. There's some quite prominent halos around some of the dark bits.

Nice idea though. Do you think the photos are better than if you'd been looking through the viewfinder?

Thanks Sam

There intended to be High Contrast B&W shots rather than HDR ie a number of exposures merged together.

I Understand that 2 has some amount of halo'ing (?) to it that could be taken out with alittle more time, however I think that is down to the harsh sun and his arm casting a shadow around it.

Not to everyones taste i know but i feel that over the originals, the high contrast effect gives more drama and depth to the images.

I like these, not posed for, you just shoot from the hip and hope your aim is good and true.

The halos are also quite prominent on the lady's legs in 3 (her thighs look radioactive!) and the guy's back in 7. I agree that they suit high-contrast but they just shout "HDR" to me.
