Anyone know how much the body with doors, etc on weighs?

Would a guess of 500kg be about right?

I's say 250kg for the engine and drivetrain, 150 for the chassis, 25kg a corner for suspension wheels discs etc.

That comes to about 1000 in total some I'm missing about 200-250kg somewhere.

The chassis is not 150 kilos no where near. It takes more effort for me to deadlift 150kg in the gym than it did for me to pick up the chassis.

Hmmmm, so that's putting the tub at something north of 600kg then?

Surpising how battery, steering column, doors, window motors, wiper motor, seats, radiater, fluids, tank, electrics, wheels and tyres etc add up to a substantial weight.

Just trying to guesstimate how much the body on it's own is going to weigh.

Looks like I might have to remove the doors.

Rad, fuel tank, battery etc would be off anyway.

Are you trying to plan how you are going to lift the body off?

just stuck the numbers I can guess fairly accurately in a spreadsheet and I reckon tub and chassis totals about 640KG. Hard to know what the split is but based on Marks comments, if we say 120Kg for chassis then 500 ish sounds about right for a bare tub without doors or boot. 4 - 6 big blokes should be able to lug it about. I seem to remeber seeing someone the other day on here saying you need 10 blokes to lift the tub but that sounds a bit extreme, I reckon 10 men could lift the whole car pretty easily. 4 of us picked a mini up (650kg)and stuck it sideways in an alley without much sweat when some nerk pissed us off.

I deadlifted the chassis by myself, im guessing 100-120kgs, doors i have had off 25kgs complete? We did lift the body with 4x people but only to shift it a bit, rather than a full lift, its sh!t loads heavier at the back.

Yep, hence why I was so interested in yours.

I have a big RSJ in my garage and was thinking of some sort of wooden frame to hoist the thing up in the air but at 640Kg I'm a little wary now. laugh

Well I am going to jack it up and rest the body on horse jumps (big wooden polls) supported by tree stumps or beer kegs or what ever else is lying around. This is unless plasticman thinks we should do something else. I will be using a combo of an engine hoist and a jack.

Chassis isn't hard to deadlift as has been said, can't be much more than 100Kg

Wheels, dampers, suspension arms, etc. to make a rolling chassis. Say 25Kg a corner = 100Kg

AJP engine 150Kg, I'm guessing 100 for the rest of the drive line incl trans and diff = 250

Body can be lifted by 4 men but not easily. I'd guess the bare shell = 500

Seats, doors, glass, interior trim, etc. = 200

I think that more or less adds up?

For body lifting, using cargo straps as a hoist at front (looped through wheel arches with protection) and rear (under boot section) also works. The ratchet tensioners do the lifting and the body's out of the way until you want it down again.

Yep that was roughly my plan.

Large square section wooden frame, through both wheel arches front and rear with a brace between them to stop them pulling the body in and banana-ing the car.

Then strops to the corners and up to a central hoist.

I don't have the space either end to get an engine crane in and I'd like to leave the body up in teh air to increase the work area.

AJP is knowhere near 150kg maybe complete with box and all ancilaries.

The prop weights bugger all, the diff is 37.5kilos... and I'll have the figures for the rest when I do the body-off. smile

Its bizarre, the prop and connecting bolts are obviously lightweight racer jobbies... the Diff is a tractor part (holden origins I guess!) - very odd matching of components.

I don't have one so certainly won't argue, but I thought it's been said before that it weighs 135Kg. Maybe that's including ancillaries, but gearbox too?

I don't think you have to worry much about banana-ing - they're bloody solid on their own!
