How did they manage in the days when cameras lasted for 10-20 years?

If that is accurate, then notably absent is any sort of decent replacement for the 80-400.

I wondered when this kind of money would buy 30mp. I can't really see the point (I'll buy one of course, I always do... I'm the sucker Simpo)

Actually, looking again this seems to fit the bill but losing 40mm at the short end seems a shame.

My new PC has a quad core CPU and 8GB of ram. It's fast opening D200 files, but I bet it will slow down a fair bit with images of that size. Still, since I'm unlikely to ever be in the market for a D4 I suppose I don't need to worry!

10-20 years? They used to last for such a short time ...

Just put a battery in the 30+ year old Canon AE-1. It works absolutely perfectly, but a fiver for a roll of 36 exposures plus processing costs makes it just too expensive to run for me. I'm quite possibly going to cry when I try to trade it in for some lenses and other kit
