It seems that jaguar have dropped the XJR name.

The new supercharged Jag is known as the Supersports. Unless it is badged XJR.

Given some of the reactions to the new car, what do you thing of that.

Cant think of any German cars called Supersports - remind me.

Perhaps you mean SS

Jaguar was SS before it became Jaguar, change due the obvious reasons.

Jaguar used SS post war too, as in XKSS

Bignige they are descriptives that we might find for other cars, there are no Supersports badges on German cas of the last 20 years I can think of.

The only ones I can think off hand, without further research, is Caterham, Morgan, Bentley and some kit car manufacturers.

I did read somewhere that the 5.0 SC would not be the XJR, but something else was coming scratchchin

Just 'cos you can't think of it doesn't mean it ain't there.
Granted it's not a factory model but it's still a Supersport moniker on a German car...so ner.

That seals it for me BN, one performance increase race car variant to a German car makes it a "very German" model name, as it is with the new XJ.

I think the XJ Supersport is what the SV8 was for the XF. The 'R version will follow. Also the runoured £100k+ model .......

Quite, and the Supersport is a mere £85k before you start adding the extras. It just proves that the correct way for Jaguar is upmarket, and aklso that one of the reasons for second hand prices being so low has perhaps just been oversupply.

Now. Can anyone else see the merit in a nice low mileage late XJR 4.2?

There was a Mk1 Fiesta SuperSport:

Obviously a nod to Ford's input on the aluminium generation XJs.

In Car this month it says there will be no new car badged as an XJR (it does also seem to suggests there will be a 'go-faster' version though...)
