I felt a bit sorry for James May, he was clearly enthusiastic about what he was talking about and all Ross could do was say how he wouldn't like to be stuck in a lift with him. I know who I'd rather have a conversation with!

James May was very interesting, Ross was a complete knob. How unfunny were his 'jokes' between each guest? How the friar tuck is putting a boiled egg in your mouth funny?

Thanks for the link. As said, Woss is a knob and is why I never watch the programme.

James May looked a bit pissed off when he left the sofa and I'm not surprised, Woss was a complete tt and if I were May I'd have walked off. The audience certainly seemed more interested in what May had to say judging by the cheer he got when he walked on and off.

Jonthan Ross is good when he has a crap guest like Lady GaGa but doesn't know when to shut up when guests are interesting. IME he's not a nice person.

Ha ha! what are you lot on about? this is James Mays "character", Jeremy would have shut him up too, it's all part of the shtick.

Ross said to James over the applause as he was going off that he would genuinely like to hear more about it.

It's just a light hearted chat show.

Only very briefly, but I think he exaggerates his pub bore character for TV wink

Guess I'm the only one who thought May was dull as a guest then? I'm no fan of Ross, but it seemed to me it was like trying to get blood from a stone getting May to hold a conversation.

Ross is actually very intelligent a real enthusiast (read "anorak") on certain topics such as film history and classis American comics.

However, his urge is to remain "cool" to his perceived audience so he plays down these atributes of his character - in other words what you see in most of his TV and radio programmes is an act. THAT is what annoys me most about Ross. I reckon that, if he was true to himself, he would be an interesting and genuinely inspiring chap to talk to. Unfortunately, he has been corrupted by the celebrity culture of today and is looking increasingly more and more foolish as he gets older.

May, on the other hand, is genuinely true to himself and this is what I find most endearing about him.

I haven't seen Ross's show for years and I make a point of avoiding his radio show as I find him terminally unfunny, but I watched on friday as May was on.

God, it's dire. Utter dross.

We watched the show to see James May.

I had quite forgotten (or perhaps never knew) what an absolutely dreadful tv prog the Ross show is. How on *earth* does he get paid so highly for that? Every time May got anywhere saying anything remotely interesting Ross clamped down on him ("they're thick as st out there James, they won't understand anything you have to say").

I don't get Ross and his popularity at all, I really don't.

I see what you are saying but I think that was down to JR not letting JM talk about things. Imagine being in JM shoes and you start to talk about something you want to talk about and it gets cut as JR is too stupid to understand and thinks the public are too (which he may be right about biggrin). When JM said, oh and how do you compress air in the first place, I thought this will get interesting and the conversation got cut right there, poor interviewing by JR. Would suck the life out of any one who actually has something to say wouldn't it?

JR show used to be entertaining (now just boring as the format hasn't developed) and works with guests who don't have much to say but are up for a bit of "banter" and a laugh with JR.

JM would have worked well with Parky I think.

FWIW, it was one of the worst Ross shows in a very long time.

They also seems to be having some problems in securing guests. The printed schedules never match who actually appear any more.
