James May on Jonathan Ross
Discussion
Ross is actually very intelligent a real enthusiast (read "anorak") on certain topics such as film history and classis American comics.
However, his urge is to remain "cool" to his perceived audience so he plays down these atributes of his character - in other words what you see in most of his TV and radio programmes is an act. THAT is what annoys me most about Ross. I reckon that, if he was true to himself, he would be an interesting and genuinely inspiring chap to talk to. Unfortunately, he has been corrupted by the celebrity culture of today and is looking increasingly more and more foolish as he gets older.
May, on the other hand, is genuinely true to himself and this is what I find most endearing about him.

We watched the show to see James May.
I had quite forgotten (or perhaps never knew) what an absolutely dreadful tv prog the Ross show is. How on *earth* does he get paid so highly for that? Every time May got anywhere saying anything remotely interesting Ross clamped down on him ("they're thick as s
t out there James, they won't understand anything you have to say").
I don't get Ross and his popularity at all, I really don't.

Guess I'm the only one who thought May was dull as a guest then? I'm no fan of Ross, but it seemed to me it was like trying to get blood from a stone getting May to hold a conversation.
I see what you are saying but I think that was down to JR not letting JM talk about things. Imagine being in JM shoes and you start to talk about something you want to talk about and it gets cut as JR is too stupid to understand and thinks the public are too (which he may be right about
JR show used to be entertaining (now just boring as the format hasn't developed) and works with guests who don't have much to say but are up for a bit of "banter" and a laugh with JR.
JM would have worked well with Parky I think.

I felt a bit sorry for James May, he was clearly enthusiastic about what he was talking about and all Ross could do was say how he wouldn't like to be stuck in a lift with him. I know who I'd rather have a conversation with!

Spot on, exactly what I thought when I watched it.
