A former World Champion in motorsport stands for President of the world governing body? Pah what does he know about being a dictator or making sure your best mate makes lots of money (and gives some to you)? Hopefully nothing!

Actually Ari made some rather important points about how the FiA isn't mainly supposed to be about F1, it's a motoring body which has neglected it's main role of being active for general motoring and other forms of motorsport for some time. He also stated that without the income from F1, the FiA as an organisation is totally stuffed right now, so they have to keep F1 onboard. Hopefully the people that matter are listening to what he is saying and get behind him.

I can't see all their income coming only from F1. I mean, there's the World rally Championship, and what about World Touring Cars? And isn't there a sports car race, something to do with GTs? Presumably it is the premier sports car series so will be on TV all the time. Then there must be all that income from those series designed to be feeders for F1.Sometimes John, you should really give it some thought before posting. If F1 was the only dependable source of income, the FiA would be charging astronomical fees for super licences and whenever there was a suggestion a team could be penalised, they'd be fining them ridiculous amounts of money. And in any case, there's all that money that they got for the TV rights. I'm not sure how much it was but, given that the company holding 14 years worth was valued at $2.5 billion (or some such figure) the FiA must have got at least twice that for 100 years. I mean, any less would be pure bad management wouldn't it?
With that potential income you'd have to be some sort of idiot to depend on just the one formula.

So... given Vatanen is clearly a very bright chap, very politically astute, but does not have a legal background (invaluable to run a body like the FIA?)
