Scirrcco vs. Golf GTi

I realise there has been a short thread on this elsewhere, but wanted to get updated views. And yes, it is a bit of a 'what car?" thread, but there's now't wrong with seeking the views of like-minded people in my opinion...
I am trying to choose between a new Golf GTi 3dr and a Scirrocco GT. I think the Scirrocco would be more fun to drive. It also has greater rarity value and more standard kit, like the active suspension for example. But the Golf has a better interior. It will be a second car, as we already have a large family holdall (S Max). So practicality is not key and you can easily get two kids in the back of both cars anyway. I do want to be able to get the kids in, so a two-seater is out (which is why I will be selling my MX5 Mk3).
I like the pedigree of the Golf, but frankly such things don't matter a great deal to me. And even if they did, the Scirrocco also has some history behind it.
The one thing that I didn't like about the Scirrocco that I saw in the showroom was that it seemed to be riding very high. The pics in the brochure show a much lower car, so perhaps it was because the car I saw was new and hadn't settled down properly. It did look a bit odd, especially given the squared off arches - almost Tiguan-like. As this will be a company car, I don't suppose I would be able to take it down to Wheels in Motion to be lowered, so hopefully this is not a feature of the car generally.
Difficult one.

Some cars (not sure if it applies to the vw) have suspension spacers which are taken off prior to customer taking delivery. Possible that this car you saw had these spacers left in. Worth seeing other examples to check if that is indeed the right ride height.

Have you seen the boot on the Scirocco (incl. the aperture and lip), and is it big enough for you if you've got kids, even as a 'weekend' car?!?
Scirocco looks better, residuals will be marginally better (but not enough to worry either way), and if you're going to sell privately I'd suggest the Scirocco or a 5dr Golf with leather will be the easiest to flog-on...a 3dr Golf (or any Golf with cloth) will be a harder sell-job so result in worse residuals.

I take you're point but c'mon a golf?? A3's are better looking, as are the Leon's, especially the very latest ones that don't have the dashboard that was made on a budget of a fiver? Even the new civic's are worth a look if you like their styling?? E46 330CD Sport's anyone?? Lots of choice far more interesting than a golf.

Are they any BETTER though?!?- Leon Cupra pricier, spec-for-spec
- Leon FR is too stiff and crashy and as a result the front end lets go too quickly.

- A3 is pricier...for what? Softer, wallowier suspension and a better interior.
OK, you're right, but it's the default choice for a reason...it's good!
