Lambo vs Porsche Purschase decision, thoughts please...
Discussion
Hi there,
in 2 minds at the mo, and wondered if anyone could offer opinions...
I have 08' Reg Porsche Cayenne GTS, brought May 08 force c.£59K, worth about £50K now.
At that time, the wife and I were thinking of having a baby, so we brought the usual 'big car' etc... Now we are going to put off having a baby for 2 yrs, so I was thinking; I have always loved the Lambo Gallardo, I see I could get one for about £56K (17K miles 04' Reg, black, manual)...
So, would it make financial sense selling the GTS and buying the Lambo, knowing that in 2 yrs time, I will hopefully be able to sell it for c. £47-49K, seeing they appear to hold their value alot better than cayennes???
Yes, service costs will be more, and I will probably have to spend 2K on a new clutch (as it has not bust..yet!), but I just feel it makes more financial sense if ever you could call put these words in the same sentence as a Lambo.
Finally, the second question would be, this would be our only car - so is it 'practical' or should we more an old run around as well?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks , Lord...

Hi there,
I am far from being in any position to be purchasing such cars but I can offer an opinion. If there is only 2 of you at the moment, then that makes the Cayenne look rather pointless considering it is a very fast family 4x4. Do you need practicality? If so, the Gallardo would be useless. Will you be using the Gallardo everyday?
And from what I have read, running an early Gallardo everyday will be VERY expensive!
Don't snipe me for this but I have a few suggestions.
Aston Martin DB9/V8 Vantage - You would get an awesome example.
Maserati Granturismo - Bad examples do not really exist yet.
Audi R8 - Are you a badge snop like me?
Bentley Continental GT - A bit bland and boring maybe?
Porsche 911 997 Turbo/GT3 - Fantastic cars and look awsome! You get the everyday reliabilty as well as sportiness and astonishing performance. Not many things out perform Porsches. Downsides is they are common and will never sound like an italian car and practicality would be a pain.
Jaguar XKR - A bit old manish? They look great. Boring to drive?
But no matter what you choose, it is a good situation to be in.
Good luck!
Baxter.

Hi, thanks for this. I agree with most of your thoughts on these cars, I did consider some of these initially, but kept thinking about the Gallardo - it just looks sexier. I remember having a poster of a Diablo (along side Baywatch ladies..) on the bedroom wall as a kid, so feel like I need to fulfill the dream - I live in the sout east and 911s are ten a penny as you say..I am far from being in any position to be purchasing such cars but I can offer an opinion. the only practical stuff I would need a 2nd car for (i work from home with the wife) is garden centre stuff, taking rubbish down the dump, and going to the airport - ie suitcases... etc Thanks for your suggestions, lord.

The Gallardo is pretty easy to live with, steerings light, so is the clutch, however visibility is poor. Retrofitting a reversing camera would maybe be worth considering. MPG as you can imagine is pretty horrendous and the boot is fairly useless as well.in 2 minds at the mo, and wondered if anyone could offer opinions...

As for using it as your only car I really wouldn't recommend it. No matter how easy to live with supercars become there are still massive problems that they cannot get around. For example the Gallardo is pretty low, so going down very steep hills can be an issue. Also speed bumps can cause problems if not taken very very slowly. I would be worried parking it anywhere (sadly there is always some jealous individual who may decide to key it etc). If we had another winter like the one we just had, would you want to take it out? Ok it has 4 wheel drive so probably wouldn't be too bad in the snow, but would you want to risk pranging it.
I'm not saying don't buy one they are brilliant cars and I would recommend them, however not as an only car. If I were you I would buy a cheap little run around to use everyday and keep the Lambo as a toy.
Hope that helps and good luck with the search.
