In Rome and seen some lovely kit. I have hankering after a Chopard. Not too trashy although some of them are outragious. What do the collective think?

I do like the Mille Miglia seen a lovely black one.

Votes please.

Great looking watches. Ive got Mille Miglia GT XL.....little bit big and the rubber strap can be a bit delicate.

I had a (black face) Millie Miglia GMT on the 'Dunlop' rubber strap. Loved it and still think it's a great looking watch.

In hindsight I was a bit blinded by the asthetics and now think it's a bit over priced for the ETA it uses (assuming you buy new).

I think that they've got some nice styles, but for the most part the PH watch elite will say that Chopard watches are simply expensive fashion watches as they don't have the pedigree and don't build their own movements. I would probably agree with that, although, I do like a few of their styles.

I thought the LUC was their own movement, probably wrong as usual.

LUC is their own in-house movement, although I don't think that they are fitted throughout the range. I'm sure that someone more knowledgeable than both of us will be along in a moment to correct me though!

Did you buy one Ash? IMO there are better ways to spank £3k on a watch than on a Choppard, although one of the MM's I remember seeing was rather nice.

I'd still stick to Rolex, IWC, JLC, Zenith, VC, PP etc etc though.

They are nice things, but in my other line of work (I run Classic & Sports Car as well as PistonHeads) you tend to see them on a lot of wrists because they are given out to competitors in the Mille Miglia every year.

This is only my own oersonal view point and I am by no means an expert.....

Chopard fall into the same catagory as Cartier IMO. Both 'houses' are able to pull off the trick of being well respected manufactors of very good quality jewalry and pretty dam decent watches. True, some of thier pieces can be a little garish, but most of a nice timeless appeal. The Milie Migilia is an item that I have always wanted to add to my collection, as and when funds allow.

I saw if you like it, buy it. It would certainly get a well respected nod of approuvel from me, unlike if you had the bog standered Rolex or something.
oh dear, I do indeed have a bog standard Rolex, however, I agree and I think some of them look very nice.

I want one because they look the part.
