Duxford Flying Legends 2009 (Images)

Had a fantastic time today at Duxford. Here are some pictures: apologies for the repetetive angles, but sometimes it's difficult to move around the place and still get a good view.

No, the one flying was a new Flugwerk one with (according to the commentary) a Chinese derived engine. Great to see in the air though whatever engine!

It sounded good, although it isn't the original engine!

There is ONE Fw190 being restored with the proper BMW 801 engine installed. It will be interesting to hear it as a comparison.

It's great to see these shapes in the sky again after over 60 years.

The pilot of the FW190 was dressed in period flying gear, and put on a stunning display with the Spitfires in what was by all accounts a still unsorted aircraft. His high-speed low-level passes were awesome. There was the Duxford based FW190 outside on static display (got a pic of them both together). Eric - is this also a replica? When I've seen it in the past, the panel fit is so poor I assumed it was an original.

Other performances of note were the Gladiator and Sea Fury: those guys took some risks...Maybe I have had the H&S sh*t knocked out of me over the years, but some of the dispalys I thought were marginal in terms of safety. NOT a critiscism, but 4G or 5G climbs directly over the crowd, along with very low-level turns towards the crowd line seemed somehow a lot different from Duxford airshows of the recent past? Anyone who went yesterday agree? There were no TFC aircraft flying - there were grounded due to a CAA paperwork problem so the comm said.

It was awesome though. I love Duxford.

I agree - a great dispaly too. The cockpit shot is also the Gladiator BTW. The Shuttleworth Collection engineer opened the canopy so I could get a better shot. Great people to chat to.

Just got back from the Sunday show at Duxford and it was really terrific.

The 190 was, in my view, the most impressive display given. Didn't think the displays were too bad in terms of H & S but i was surprised at the number of runs and dives towards the crowd line. Never felt at any risk whatsoever though.

Simply brilliant, as ever, to watch the Spitfires take off and display. Goosebumps and tears every time! Love the Hurricanes but they don't have the same effect.

Is the Spitfire the most beautiful man made thing ever???

And a Merlin engine on a stand being run up!!!! That wouldn't work on a 105db track day!

My first air show for many years, taking my Dad there for his 80th birthday so we went with Gold passes which made everything much more relaxed.

Every single person associated with Duxford has been a pleasure to deal with! Just seemed like they cared about people having a good time rather than seeing visitors as a bit of a pain (an experience we have all had at other venues), so credit where it's due and I will be mailing them tomorrow.

Agreed: took my Dad a couple of years ago - he needed a wheelchair to get around. Everyone was very helpful, including letting us dodge the long queue for the flightline walkabout AND insisted we didn't need to pay! I told them a couple of times we didn't have a gold pass, but still, no problem. Unbelievable service these days.

Kept saying to a couple of friends we should go to Duxford to see the museum so we agreed last week to go today. Pleasantly surprised to find an airshow on as well !!

Great day out and weather held off - nice red face now.

Very impressed with it all and i'll definitely be going back with my father soon.

Great pictures there - makes me wish I had a better lens! I love your 'Big Beautiful Doll' Mustang in flight picture.

Where were you standing to get your pictures? I was just about in front of the American museum, then walked down to the far end of the flightline near the new museum building.
