laptop to ecu connection

can u use a vista laptop to connect to the ecu?

im using a vista laptop, with a usb serial adaptor but cant talk to the car, the serial is set to COMS1 and iv changed the bit rate to 9600.

any suggestions or do i have to get an XP laptop?

I found I couldn't use vista as it drops out every few seconds, I installed a boot loader and XP on my machine, it worked when booting to XP but the boot loader still won't operate properly so I ended up just getting a old laptop with the port already on it.

cheers guys, brought a different serial adaptor lead and it works a treat F**king maplins!!!!!!!

but now when i reset the throttle, throttle number 1 goes to 15% as it should but throttle 2 wont go lower than 28%, iv taken off the potentiometer and i can turn it to 9%.

also when ever i turn the car off and on the throttle pots go back to there original values, do u have to save the value somewhere after reseting them??

So the one you bought from Maplins was at fault? Where did you get the new serial adapter?

brought one from novatech, was half the price, and worked straight away, didnt even load the software.

wasted a day beacuse of maplins
