When accelerating in the nob recently I've noticed am getting a real strong smell of petrol in the cabin more so when the windows are down, also just driving before I got a little ploom of exhaust smoke in the passenger footwell when I stopped to investigate there were no signs, any ideas?

Hi Greg , check to see if the tank breather pipe is still hanging out the bottom of the passenger side bottom alloy plate .....smoke sounds a bit dodgy !! don,t know how it would end up in the passenger footwell unless its going down the transmition tunnel ...if so i would check the front downpipe and turbo ...mine were loose so might be worth checking !!!

I had exactly the same symptoms a little while back.

Check all the connections of the fuel pipes on the fuel filter and fuel pump. Also check the fuel filter endplate to make sure it is not leaking. Mine was.

I got this when my front turbo was slowly losing oil (different smell I know but worth double-checking if the other ideas don't show up anything) and it was leaking onto one or more hot bits and burning. I always noticed it when slowing after a period of acceleration. And only when the windows were down - I guess the dynamics of the air flow through the tunnel are different during power on and power off.
