What frame to get?
Discussion
Hi guys, just recently joined the forums for my mx5 and didn't realise how many different topics there were to this forum so I thought you guys might be able to help me with my bike.
I have recently broken my Tomac Omen frame and need to get another. It was supposed to have a lifetime warranty but since the company has changed hands and now new distributors etc.. I have to buy a frame. Now I have been given a half price offer from Chainreactions (where I bought it) on something that they sell. Due to other commitments (car) I can't spend too much and have narrowed it down to 3 frames.
1) DMR Trailstar III
2) NS Bikes Surge
3) Ragley Blue Pig
Now I have single ring up front and rockshox pike forks and it needs to be an all mountain/hardcore hartail sort of thing. So it will be for trails mostly but also has to handle the od drop off/jump here and there.
Any one got any of these or any opinions?
Many Thanks,
John

I used to be into mountain biking, downhilling and at the time i always thought Specialised bikes were great, they a frame to cover evry type of mountain biking but at a high standard, not just making them for the sake of it, take a look at the epic ...

i think the OP was thinking of something that could take a bit more abuse than a epic!!!http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp...
I don't know, i would say from his description of what he wants i would say the Epic is probably more than he needs, its definitly a step up from a hardtail but with the function of the brain it will ride like a hard tail when he needs it ...
I suppose the stuntjumper would do the job but the ride wouldnt be as good as the Epic on the trails, i suppose it depnds really if you like riding up hills, fitness aswell, if not then getting a more downhill style bike should be the way to go.

i dont want to start an argument but at what point does an Epic (or a Stumpjumper for that matter) fit the requirement "it needs to be an all mountain/hardcore hartail sort of thing". to me that says Zesty 314, Marin Quake, Santa Cruz Chameleon, Whyte 905 or Pace RC305....I suppose the stuntjumper would do the job but the ride wouldnt be as good as the Epic on the trails, i suppose it depnds really if you like riding up hills, fitness aswell, if not then getting a more downhill style bike should be the way to go.

the epic is a stunning ride and i was lucky enough to borrow one for a thrash around afan for the day but it is a diehard xc race machine and little more...
...and he did say he did not want to spend much!
I read about the Blue Pig somewhere and it scored well IIRC...it's a Brant Richards jobbie (ex On-One) so it's bound to be good value and UK friendly. Incidentally, what happened to "Shedfire", did he give up on that and go for the Radley name? Scarily close to "Raleigh" if you ask me!

I have an old steel DMR SideKick and, to be honest, it's the bike I use the most. It's very strong, rides nice and just feels good. It's no ultra light XC machine but it's not bad, mines got just a middle ring, some old (2000!) Bombers, strong wheels, some big DH bars and a short stem.
I'd buy another one for what it cost
Oh, Mark Anthony's in Buxton have got TrailStar frames for £99!!! I called in the other day.

I think Shedfire is his design company and he used this name until the Ragley brand was unveiled. If it was my choice it would be the new Ragley. Pikes would be a decent fork for it and it appears to be the most trail orientated frame of the three but with the ability to take jumps and drops in it's stride.
Cheers for the input guys. I've already odered and am now eagerly awaiting a Ragley blue pig. Should be with me next week and I can't wait! I can't say that I have ever really been a fan of Specialized bikes. Just don't like the look of them and never been that fussed on the ride but either way the stumpjumper is an XC machine and not for me (I don't think it would appreciate Pikes up front either) and again I want to stick with a hardtail and not spend a fortune so the epic isn't really suitable at all. I will be getting one of the first batch of Blue pigs so I will let you guys know what it's like. I'm so excited!
