New V8S... questions
Discussion
Right then. Now the new V8S has arrived I need to get one or two things sorted. Some questions then:
1) What spares and tools do you carry onboard?
2) Where can I get a new service log book (old one full up)?
3) Have read much about battery conditioners. Do you fellow 'S' clubbers use one? if so which?
4) Where can I get a spare throttle cable fairly quickly (I am paranoid)?

1) Throttle cable
2) Try TVR
3) Not personally... but I use the car regularly... Leven sell them though...
4) Try TVR
1) May be I'm lucky, but have not had problems with throttle cables. But do carry a selection of fuses, tape, wire and perhaps a leatherman- - don't forget the mobile 'phone!
2) TVR Centre, Barnet (tel: 0208 440 6666) are pretty efficient and have a good stock of Rover V8 spares. Usually, a telephone order arrives within 24hrs if parcel post is requested. Believe Peninsula are good for body/suspension parts
3) I also use my car at least a couple of times a week .Reckon its the worst thing you can do is lock it up over the winter. Its a machine! use it

1. I carry a complete set of spanners, pliers, screwdrivers, spare plugs, 1L of oil, 2L of water, foot pump, etc. I always have done, even in the Fiesta. Takes up boot space, but I would rather get home.
2. ???
3.Try Accumate (www.accumate.co.uk) They do the "accumate" and "Optimate" chargers/conditioners. Spec. looks very good, and priced about £40 inc vat. I am looking at getting one myself.

Tools I wish I’d had in my V8S….. Big hammer, crowbar, axe
If you are planning on carrying spares like fuses then you will also need a torch and a pair of nose ended pliers. A bit of rubber mat to lay / kneel on may be an idea too (changing fuses it not at all easy, unless you are an expert in yoga / gymnastics).
Carrying a throttle cable is ok (£70), but you will also need a suitable spanner, pair of pliers for split pin, and I needed a press made from a small length of pipe spanner to get the thing to seat into the bulkhead grommet.
Based upon the other things that have gone wrong with the car, carrying a selection of screwdrivers, selection of connectors and some wire may also be a good idea. (Fuel pump relay bypass kit).
I should say that I do all of my own mechanical work on every car I drive, but I would not bother carrying to many spares for the V8S if I were driving in England. The smallest problems have a habit of taking hours to fix, mostly due to accessibility. I used to carry spare plugs, HT leads, plug spanners etc, but I figured with 8 cylinders if I lost one I could limp home.
Hope that gets you started,
Z

Hi pstruck,
The V8t hrottle cable is not in the same league as the V6.. with a V6 its a derigeur accessory to have the supplemental throttle cable in the Boot for the roadside changeover.. the V8 however is a bit different an less prone to breakage and is a Landrover Part IIRC.
Cheers
Matt.

Currently i keep no spares or tools in the boot
Just join AA
My service book is full i have no intention of buying another just so somebody can stamp it.I have a nice binder which i keep all reciepts in.To me this is more important as the new buyer can see what work has actually been done

Agree with this
