I have an interview today for a junior accounting position.

Does anyone have any really good tips to impress as this job is exactly what I've been looking for and couldn't be more perfect if it tried.

I've lost a lot of confidence having had so many rejections over the last few weeks and its left me a bit dented - but I don't want this to come over! I'm not usually one for lack of confidence, but so many rejections in such a short space of time has made me question my capabilities - or indeed if I am employable.

Some of the reasons have included: over confident, under confident, too quiet (and I'm quite chatty!), over qualified and under qualified.

I've researched the company, researched the role (have been requested not to contact directly as it is through an agency) gathered some questions and have ironed my clothes.

Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you.

Be yourself and sell your skills.
Offer examples of when you have performed a certain task. If you have achievements, try to get them into the conversation.
Make sure you have good eye contact, but obviously, don't stare.
Have some questions ready at the end.
Most importantly - make sure you answer the question asked. i have lost count of the amount of times I have asked a question at interview and had the candidates answer something totally different as they were either nervous or not listening properly.

It is fine to have a copy of your c.v in front of you to prompt you with dates etc.

Good luck

Thank you Firefoot.

I'm an utter bag of nerves which is very unlike me! The rest of the interviews I was fine...but as this is the perfect job I think its hit a bit harder!

Time for a cup of tea and a spot of ironing smile

Typically in accounting they will be looking for you to want to do your exams and move onto more senior positions once qualified.
It would be good if you can demonstrate some ambition in the interview.
Ask questions about training, study leave/support and moving around the business.

I didn't get it frown

The only feedback I got was that because I've not finished my current course yet (AAT) it shows lack of commitment.

But I've only been doing it 6 months and just have 3 skills tests left and the essay left to complete and I'm completely finished. I didn't think that was bad going! I'm struggling with the essay as I'm not in a real accounting based role and finding it really hard to get case studies (and my employer wont help me with data etc and wont release it) I have started reading the ACCA texts to get going with those whilst I wait for the exam results and some feedback before I sit the skills tests.

On to the next one I suppose.

Does anyone want to give me a job?!

Don't worry about it too much. I'm in the same boat. Just got out of university and been rejected after a few interviews. Got to get as much feedback as you can and try and improve on it. Keep on being pro-active in searching for a job and it will eventually come. Or at least I hope so anyway...

where are you based?

Place I work at in Leeds is growing. The accounts dept is swelling with new bodies in every few weeks.

Sheffield. biggrin (that is the big grin of optimism)

This week I'm going to give a copy of my CV to every single firm in the area that has anything to do with accountancy. The printer is warming up and I've got a whole ream of paper waiting.
