Going over to the ring in September (confirmed that it is open) wondered if there are any good driving roads around there, will be doing the ring for 2 or 3 days but want to do some driving around germany,Fancie going to the Alps but one of the cars going is a stripped out Pug 309 GTi6 and doesn't fancie driving long motorway sections so would like to stay in germany.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Are you planning on staying around that area for a few days? If so anywhere is good, i know that sounds vague, but honestly i have yet to find a road in that area i wouldn't call a "drivers" road, stay off the dual carraigeways and motorways and the roads are all fantastic.
Go up around the campsite, down through to Andenau and that whole area, its great fun.

+1. If staying local, just follow your nose, or look at a local road map for the squiggly lines! A trip towards Cochem could be fun and scenic too down on the Mosel if that is your "thing".

Er....um.....harder to try and find a BAD driving road!! As has been said before the roads in that area are fantastic driving Each time I've been I've actually enjoyed the roads around Da Ring more than my time actually on the Da Ring - the public roads are free, are not closed for long periods like the Ring was on my last visit and you don't have to worry about locals who know the Ring really well driving or riding track weapons coming up behind you!

As suggested above, Cochem and the road to/from it is thumbup See a previous reply from me here for a suggested route....

Buy a Michelin road map for the area or use their online route planner. Any road with green shading along it is worth checking out wink

Go into the General Motorsport forum, open the "fantasy race tracks/hillclimbs" thread. Go to the bottom and look for the Adenau hillclimb that I posted.
