My folks live up t'north, and was thinking of doing a track day whilst visiting. Elvington looks a bit boring with a couple of long straights. Teeside possibly looks a bit amateur. Anyone been for an experienced view? I'm a complete newbie by the way and would probably take my Dad who is also a newbie.

Never been to Teeside but understand it is a kart circuit (longest in UK IIRC) so it will be technical with tight turns I imagine.

Did a track day in Elvington a few weeks back as was itching for a day out and it was the only day on a Saturday at the time. It's an airfield so very open and flat with lots of run off. Probably great for beginners. Pretty abrasive but we were pushing on a bit.

Did you get the feeling it was just "floor it, hairpin, floor it" etc? Or is the actual drive better than the layout suggests?

Hmm just noticed there is a 98db limit at Elvington so rules me out.

Ive done both Teeside and Elvington a few times,Teeside was ok in a seven type bike engined car,its very tight and twisty, but would be a waste of time in anything much bigger,Elvington is ok for a introduction to trackdays, but expect lots of stone chips and tyre wear.

Croft looks good but again I think I get stumped by the 98 limit. Think the only 105db tracks are darn sarf!

Teesside is 2x s's wink

I wouldn't put anything bigger then a Kit car on Teesside, far too tight for anything of any size, and summer you will struggle to get on for the karts. Croft's days are fewer and farther between now - locals put paid to track days there, and if you do get one of the rare ones, 98db applies.

Elvington is probably your only real choice up here to be honest frown

Some of the moor roads are worth a blast tho...evil

I guess what you are actually saying is, if like yourself, someone only has the skill to drive around a 30 metre wide track, Elvington is ideal!! I suppose Cadwell Park would be beyond your ability too, ..... amazingly it is the same width! When there is a pre-arranged trackday, it is for cars, & cars only, so no karts except where it is something that adds something a little different for those that have driven on the trackday!!

you could well be right! My brother and I did croft last year and they are pretty strict on noise limits. My parents live in the North East and my in-laws & brothers live in the South..

I end up doing trackdays near my parents home or near my brothers house in kent/London...

Elvington isn't too bad actually - although as the other chap mentioned it is hard on the tyres.

The Kart circuit is fine for karting but a 'tad' small..

Teesside looks interesting to me. They can make numerous combinations or run on the perimeter. See yourself by pasting: Middlesbrough TS6 6XH into Google Maps...

I did a training day by ProDrive up in Warwickshire, and they had a GoKart sized track set up to emphasise and test handling. I found that just as much (if not more) fun than the main high speed track. So maybe Teeside will be good for a laugh. Sort of like a blast of a twisty alpine road.

hmmm...

Yeah, I guess you would make that assumption...paid to do the job and all that rolleyes

My point being that if you wanted to stretch the legs on a Ferrari Middlesbrough is not the place to do it. If you want tight twisty bits it might be. Might be able to botch a Ginetta up with a bit of Glass Fibre, whether you'd want to do that on that Fezza with the lack of run-off is another matter...

Nor was I suggesting that you'd have to drive around Karts, but the track is pretty much always booked up with Karts, and they don't seem to be advertising too many track days for anything other, unless I'm missing something. (one late August, one late September so far).

The newer bit was very Green the last time I was there 3 weeks ago, it sadly looks very under used. No doubt Ginettajoe knows best tho wink

I'll go somewhere else for my "Motor Race Instruction"...ta.
