I’m interested in improving engine cooling and maintaining performance on track days, so was after info on the Pro Alloy intercooler and what solutions (and the ancillaries required) the Nobility have come up with for oil cooling on a 3R.

I know this has been covered before, but the search option – even with 8 years selected - doesn’t show threads before December 2008 and if I’m right this was covered over 3 years ago. If anyone that started a thread off would be kind enough to post a link or even a rough date it would be appreciated.

Also with regard to the Pro Alloy intercooler – is this just a straight swap or does it need a lot of alterations to metalwork and pipework?

Many thanks

Andrew

It seems the Pro alloy intercooler is the best option at the mo, and I'm purchasing one in the very near future.
As for oil cooling im going to use a large laminova type water to oil cooler which also helps heat the oil from cold as well as cool it,
Positioning of it is still undecided, but as my engine and gearbox are coming out tomorrow I will have easy access to find a convienient position, it will probably be in a side pod or the center tunnel though.

A bit of both Mike.... gearbox was new 5k miles ago but is going to 'gearbox man' for the strengthening mods etc, engine is being refreshed a bit as it seems the valve train is a bit tired (has been running 1 bar for ages)so some new springs etc seem in order !

Possible oil cooler soultion?

The guys at what was Noble London have suggested fitting the M400 oil cooler up front in my 3R.

Anyone got any experience of doing this or a view as to how this might compare to any aftermarket oil coolers?

Thanks smile

If anything, it is more than you need for a front mount cooler, so it should work fine.
BTW, the M400 uses a stock aftermarket MOCAL oil cooler--not special for Noble.

I'm not sure what the M400 uses, but I use a MOCAL sandwich plate thermostat for my front-mounted oil cooler. Simple and effective.

It's tight but you can get the pipes through the tunnel, use 5/8 lines to reduce the pressure drop .

Yes, I get that but others seem to be able to find the older topics. Weird...

Here is some discussion on the topic from the U.S. forum:
http://www.nobleforums.com/showthread.php?t=2532&a...

I used the MOCAL 235 matrix/13-row model, but you should be able to fit up to a 19-row cooler in the same space.

It will depend on how much BHP your motor develops.

I don't know what size you would need for a gearbox cooling system, but it will be smaller and I doubt that it would have to be front mounted--a sidepod location should be adequate for it since the cooling demand is not as severe as for engine oil.

Thought I'd give a quick up date to this one and to thank Joel for the info.

Have had a Mocal Oil cooler fitted up front and repeated the Silverstone GP evening last week, in similar warm conditions to the evening 6 weeks ago. Much improved performance. No overheating issues and the car was wonderfully responsive for the whole of the session.

Thanks again Joel
