Hi folks

Never ventured here as I am normally on the TVR section having had my 500 for over 13 years now.

I have at no fauly of my own had my A8 Quatt sport effectively written off due to cost of the front end rebuild.
I am seriously considering an E39 M5 early 2000/2001 with some miles on as I drive about 25k pa and its not worth getting anything with really low mileage on. My A8 had 180k on and still felt tight to drive and ate up the miles doing circa 28 mpg etc..

I was wondering what the cam belt intervals were and any other significant stuff/ issues I should look out for.I can do the basics myself but I guess just need a well looked after and not too hammered drive chain etc.. I have read some of the posts for background which has been useful.

Should i try and get an older straight 6 or go for the V8?

Your views would be useful

Cheers

An E39 M5 will have higher running costs than your A8, with parts/servicing/tyres, and mpg.

As for a straight 6 (e34), older car with high running costs at best, and a money pit if you buy the wrong one (quite a few dogs out there).

Do a search, as there are many current owner (I'm one) and former owners of both of these cars, so many thread abou them over the years.
